Chapter 281 - Exchanging Information
It was in the middle of the night and Elliot didn't get a wink of sleep. He was still short on his Twilight Brew and the days aren't slowing down.
"They will probably delay the competition for a day, then they'll continue it."
Elliot sprung up from his bed and rolled to the side to get his sword. He brandished his blade from its scabbard and pointed at the silhouette of a man in the windowsill.
"J-Jameson?" Elliot groaned after seeing the man sitting on the window. "What are you doing? It's still midnight. How did you get in my room?"
He wasn't wearing his disguise. The prince had his long straight hair that he tied up in a ponytail. His figure was also lean, something you would not notice if you look at how he looked earlier.
Jameson stood and went to the wall. He placed his palm on the wall and pushed it, letting his hand pass through the wooden wall.
"What in the hell is that?" Elliot gasped. "That's your ability?"
"Elliot, I wasn't sent here to collect gems," Jameson confessed. He walked over to where Elliot was. The shorter boy was standing, raising his sword and let it follow Jameson as the man walked closer to him. "I was sent here because Mr. Polschk asked for a request."
Elliot paused for a moment. He lowered his sword and looked at Jameson in the eyes, only seeing the sincerity in them, "You know Polschk?"
"He was a man of high value," Jameson muttered. "When he was younger, before he worked at the Royal Court, he explored the world. His studies led him to great discoveries and it wasn't long before he found out about the Twilight Bless."
"You know about the Twilight Bless too?" Elliot asked. "Did he tell you everything that you know?"
"Yes," Jameson replied. "He is the man who holds all the records that have been left by the ancients. The so little records, he holds them all."
"So, you mean there's more than a few pages of texts about the Twilight Bless?" Elliot's eyebrows knit in confusion. "But he said there's barely anything."
Jameson looked at Elliot like he grew three more heads. He looked around and scrunched his face up, "But he showed us a full set of books about the Twilight Bless, their origins and their purpose."
"So, he didn't trust us that much to show us the records," Elliot pursed his lips. "He told us that he's wary of his surroundings. Maybe that's his way of saying that he doesn't trust us enough."
"Tell me about what you know and I'll tell you what I know," Jameson offered. He took a deep breath and walked to the window. He placed his hand through the wall and pulled out a green spherical gem.
Elliot's eyes widened as he watched the light green gem glow. There was only the moon to light up his room but Elliot could see the light coming from the gem itself. He couldn't take his sight from it, watching as Jameson handed it to him.
"I feel like I can trust you more than anyone else here, so I'm giving this to you. You said you needed this," Jameson said. "But in exchange, we will spend the night sharing what we know. I need to know more about the Twilight Bless so I can help Polschk."
"What are you going to do with it?" Elliot asked. "What is your goal?"
"I am collecting gems so I can seal the Twilight Bless as it unlocks. Polschk said that it will open inside the stadium and my task is to seal the stadium with only us inside. That way, when all plans fail, the damage would be lessened. I want to know the scale of its powers, and also to confirm a suspicion," Jameson replied.
"Do you know about the organization called Oracion Alma?" Elliot started. Jameson shook his head to which Elliot sighed. "Then this is going to be a long night for us."
The two did ended up exchanging what they know. It turns out that Jameson had only known about the Twilight Bless, but not the events that had been happening around it.
He didn't know about Oracion Alma, nor the Fallen Angels. Elliot felt like he was giving out information instead of exchanging it with them. He felt like he was on the losing side until Jameson mentioned about what the Adamant Jade does.
Elliot still had it in his hands. He was going to put it in his Inventory soon but he didn't know what other item to take out in replace for it. All the other slots in his Inventory contains perishable items. Potions, food, and other concoctions.
"The gem has an almost infinite amount of Arcane Points," Jameson said. "I know this information doesn't really match with the topic we agreed on, but then this is the only thing I can give. You already know about what I know and Polschk seemed to summarized everything for you."
"Wait, go back," Elliot interrupted. "You said that the gem contains an infinite amount of Arcane Points?"
Jameson nodded, "Yes, but then it's not exactly infinite. It has its limits but then it can spam Ethereum for a thousand times before it runs out."
Elliot formed an O with his lips and glanced at the gem. He looked at Jameson and then at the gem. He wanted it.
He can strike his most deadly skill, Ethereal Strike for a lot of times. The skill could annihilate an opponent considering it would max out the opponent's HP and then strike that amount to them.
He could still remember almost hitting Francoise with it. The forest behind Lance's fortress was destroyed like it was struck by a lightning the size of a mountain.
Elliot was going to rejoice when he realized that he has to give the gem to the Manual. It says to put it in his Inventory, and if this was like the other quests, a variation of the dump feature would eat the item.
With a sigh, he scrolled through the long list of items in his Invetory. He decided to take out the Book of the Beginning and put it back later on.
"Why do you have this?" Jameson gasped. He opened his hand and gestured Elliot to give him the book. The latter was hesitant. The book was fragile and it felt like it was very important.
But Jameson wasn't going to back away, "Can I borrow this?"
"What are you going to do with it?" Elliot curled his right brow up. He placed the book behind him and narrowed his eyes at Jameson.
"That is the Book of the Beginning," Jameson said. "Our kingdom has another one, the Book of the Middle. The Eastern kingdoms has the Book of the End."
"There are more of these?" Elliot asked and looked at the book. "And what do these books do?"
"They tell us about what happened, what is happening, and what is about to happen," Jameson replied. "Those books have been in the hands of Sears and record takers. On the side of the cover is a text inscribed by the ancients."
Elliot looked at the book to where Jameson pointed, and there he saw words that were foreign but he could understand very well.
'The Twilight Wings will spread their wings when the time comes and the white snow springs.'
Elliot looked at Jameson. He didn't notice the words if the prince hadn't mentioned it.
'Quest [ Solaguer Library ] completed.'
