Chapter 932: A Rough Start
Chapter 932: A Rough Start
‘I’ll soon find out for myself?’ Hearing the words Valyr said to him, a slight frown appeared on Noel’s face as he continued to watch the young man prepare what looked to be an attack
against the Shadow Boar.
‘I want to see where you got that confidence from,’ Noel inwardly scoffed, continuing to watch mana coalesce around the weapon.
Though he had no clue what weapon exactly Valyr was wielding, there was no doubt in the old man’s mind that the weapon seemed formidable.
The fact that it was accumulating this much energy alone before it had even attacked was already proof that it might have the ability to unleash high levels of combat power.
‘However, under the hands of Valyr, would the weapon unleash enough to defeat the boar?’ the old man mused to himself, his attention remaining fixated on the ever-growing power surrounding the weapon.
Eventually, the weapon seemed to have reached its limit, accumulating enough mana inside it to greatly enhance the feeling of danger Noel felt whenever he looked at it.
Then, not long after, Valyr activated one of his Intents, causing his eyes to slightly widen in surprise as he felt it meld with the weapon.
‘Valyr has already comprehended a concept to this extent?’ Although he already knew that the young man had comprehended an Intent back when they were still sparring at the Spearman Guild, Noel expected Valyr’s Intent to be around 9th or 8th Grade.
If he was generous in his expectations, then even 7th Grade wouldn’t be far-fetched to believe.
Yet, from what he could sense…
‘6th… no, 5th Grade?’ For some reason, the old man could not accurately gauge the level of Valyr’s Intent, feeling as if it was intentionally stuck in the middle of the two grades.
Nevertheless, the fact that Valyr had comprehended a concept to this level prompted the old man to reevaluate his earlier thoughts, wondering if that was the reason why the young man felt confident enough to hunt Shadow Rabbits.
“[Limit Break: Second Verse]!”
“[First Encore]!”
Watching the young man’s strength grow tremendously under the effects of the stat- boosting skills he activated, Noel eventually had a solemn expression on his face, a thought soon surfacing in his mind.
‘It seems I’ve underestimated this brat.’ Using Valyr in his current state as his reference, Noel immediately dispelled his earlier notion of the young man only being able to fight against Shadow Boars.
‘This strength is more than enough for him to fight against the weaker elite predators of the Shadow Plane on an even level,’ thought Noel to himself. ‘Perhaps not the Shadow Rabbits, but the Shadow Canines and Shadow Felines would pose no issue.’
As this thought came to mind, the young man soon took a few steps forward, causing the boar to awaken from its slumber before charging at Valyr with furious rage.
Seeing as if the young man had expected this current situation to happen, Noel inwardly let out a chuckle as he refreshed his thoughts once more. ‘Well, let’s see how much strength he can unleash now that he’s been reborn through the inheritance.’
“[Grand Burst]!”
Before the Shadow Boar could even close the gap, Valyr released all of the energy he’d stored within the weapon, shooting out what looked to be a blue beam of light that immediately made contact with the boar’s head.
Bang!
At the very instant the two made contact, the Shadow Boar’s body exploded as if it were a water balloon, exploding into a mist of blood and flesh that covered its imminent vicinity.
Unsurprisingly, Noel’s eyes widened in great disbelief at the sight, not expecting Valyr’s attack to be that effective.
However, that disbelief only intensified even further as he looked at the dark red number that floated over what was once the Shadow Boar.
“Over a million points of damage…” murmured Noel as even his mouth had gone agape from the shock, slowly shifting his gaze from the aftermath of the attack to the cause of the attack itself.
Just like him, Valyr was greatly surprised to see that he had the ability to unleash that much damage in his current state.
Though, when Noel looked at the young man for a bit more, he soon realized…
‘It’s more like he wasn’t expecting the damage to get that high? He was that confident that he could kill the boar with one attack?’
With this thought in mind, Noel took in a few deep breaths to compose himself.
‘It may take some time for it to bare its fangs…’
Then, staring at the weapon Valyr had used to kill the boar, the old man made up his mind, inwardly letting out a sigh before moving closer to the young man with a faint smile.
‘But I guess I was the one proven wrong this time.’ Noel slightly chuckled at the thought. ‘Not that I mind.’
…
Ding!
After he had gotten over the shock of dealing over a million damage with a single attack, Valyr brought up his notification screen after hearing a series of notification sounds resound in his
mind.
[With a 10+ level disparity between the user and the opponent, the amount of experience obtained shall be increased by 200%.]
[You have slain a Level 70 Shadow Boar (Ancient Elite). You have gained 3,018,473 XP.]
[Your Shadow Energy stat has improved by 21 points.]
[Due to your actions, you have obtained the title ‘Overkill’.]
[Due to your actions, you have obtained the title ‘True Overkill’.]
[Due to your actions, you have obtained the title ‘Extreme Overkill’.]
[Due to your actions, you have obtained the title ‘Absurdly Extreme Overkill’.]
[Due to your actions, you have obtained the title ‘Myth-transcending Mortal’.] [You have made progress in realizing the next stage of Slayer of Ascendants (574/10,000).]
Seeing how much Shadow Energy he’d obtained from killing the Shadow Boar, Valyr lightly whistled in surprise, recalling that he’d only gained 5 points of Shadow Energy from killing the juvenile Shadow Serpent.
‘In comparison, I gained four times that much just from killing one Shadow Boar,’ inwardly muttered the young man to himself soon after, being reminded of the effects the Serpent Maiden told him about directly gazing at the Shadowsource.
With that, the young man became more than eager to fight against more of the Shadow Plane’s beasts, realizing that it wouldn’t be long before he got his hands on an Epic grade
subclass.
Moving his attention away from the first notification, Valyr proceeded onto the plethora of title notifications he obtained, prompting him to wonder where they came from.
Fortunately, one quick look through their descriptions immediately told him the answer he sought, which was the fact that all of the titles came about from the attack he just unleashed on the Shadow Boar.
[Overkill] was a title that came about if one dealt damage equal to 200% of the opponent’s HP with one attack. However, the title would only appear if the opponent was at most five levels
below the user.
On the other hand, [True Overkill] needed one to deal damage equal to 500% of the opponent’s HP, while [Extreme Overkill] needed one to deal damage equal to 1000% of the
opponent’s HP.
Lastly, [Absurdly Extreme Overkill] needed one to deal damage equal to 2000% of the
opponent’s HP.
In total, the titles related to overkill boosted his Attack stat by 15%, which was an amount that wasn’t insignificant.
As for [Myth-transcending Mortal], it also appeared due to the attack Valyr unleashed on the Shadow Boar. It was similar to the other titles in that it needed one’s opponent to be
comparable in level.
However, unlike the previous titles, the condition to obtain [Myth-transcending Mortal] was to deal over a million points of damage while having a class rank that was Rank 5 or lower.
In exchange, what he considered his most prominent stats, DEX and INT, were boosted by 15%, while all of his other stats, including his HP and MP, were boosted by 5%. ‘That’s a lot of stats for a Mythic grade title. It’s on par with the title I got from completing Ryvrthe’s quest.’ More than satisfied with the things he’d obtained from a single kill, Valyr closed his screen and turned to look at Noel, only to see the old man look at him with a
slightly apologetic smile.
“It seems I was mistaken,” Noel said, letting out a wry chuckle. “Why didn’t you tell me you could dish out that much damage, brat?”
Valyr could only laugh in response. “You saw how long it took me to attack, Elder Noel. It’s not really a level of damage I could consistently dish out on the battlefield.”
“Well, that may be the case, but the ability to unleash a great amount of damage in an instant would still prove useful in certain situations,” replied Noel, to which the young man nodded
in agreement.
“Either way, you’ve dispelled all of my doubts. You’ve proven to me that you have what it
takes to hunt Shadow Rabbits,” said the man. “However, I still want you to roughly go through the beast hierarchy of the Shadow Plane at the very least.”
“With that, I’ve decided that your next opponent would be one of the weaker elite predators
of the Shadow Plane.”
“The Shadow Canine.”
