Chapter 426 - 426: Trouble
Chapter 426 – 426: Trouble
"You know, love," He cooed, his voice dropping low huskily. The scent of blood and perfume wafted from his body as he drew close. There were pinkish water droplets on his chest, gliding down their bare expanse as he titled towards her. The smile on his face widened as he continued, "One day, you're going to beg me to ask you about your business."
Luna stepped back quickly, avoiding his extended hand. "Dream on." She said, rolling her eyes at his ridiculous self-confidence.
The alpha's eyes flashed a dangerous yellow at that. "Stop doing that." He said, stepping closer to her.
"What?" The goddess asked, taking a step back, mimicking his steps.
She didn't like the fact that he was too close to her. His actions in the pool flashed in her mind, again and again, making her nervous about his intentions. She could see the raw hunger in his eyes as his gaze traveled up her body and stopped at her mouth. In the next moment, he was beside her, surprising her distracted self.
His hand wrapped around her waist, pulling her close against his bare muscled chest. Luna didn't move, knowing that it would cause her more harm than staying still. The man was a ticking bomb of emotions. She didn't want to trigger it. She stared into his eyes with a mixture of irritation and disinterest. But the alpha seemed unbothered by her response. He raised his free hand to her chin, tilting her face closer to his own.
"This." He said, rubbing his thumb along the lip that she was biting on.
Luna's eyes widened in shock. Had she been biting her lips all along? She wondered, quickly releasing her lower lip from the grip of her upper teeth. She tried to move away in reflex, but that only strengthened the alpha's grip around her waist.
The goddess glared at the man in irritation. William smirked at her action but refused to move his thumb that was still resting on her mouth. In the silence, they stood for a few seconds, the woman staring at the man in front of her in irritation and the man watching the woman in his arms with amusement.
Luna's hand was itching to release her powers and bang this man's arrogant face into the very ground they were standing on. It took her immense patience to stay still. But the wait was worth it, as the alpha's smirk slowly faded. With a sigh, he stepped back, releasing her from his grip.
"Why are you here?" He asked, looking around the place with curiosity. "Lost?"
Luna raised her brows, not understanding what he was talking about. She followed his gaze, scanning the forest around her. That was when she realized it. For the past few minutes, she had been walking down the wrong trail. There were no houses along the path like the one she had followed out of the alpha's house.
She frowned, confused at how she had reached the place. She had only seen a narrow road leading from the mud-packed path that cut widely across the forest to the temple. Had she in her haste followed a wrong path?
"How did I..?" Luna trailed off, wondering aloud.
William chuckled. "Yes, how did you?" He asked, shaking his head. "If you didn't know how to find your way back, then you shouldn't have run away." He paused, leaning close to her ears. "I was just about to invite you into the temple." He whispered, his voice lowering seductively.
"Tch." The goddess huffed, sliding away from him with a dismissive look. "Who would want to-" Her taunt was cut off when the alpha suddenly stiffened. In a flash, the man caught hold of her hand and dragged her to the side, pinning her front against the tree. "Hey!" She exclaimed in protest as he pressed his form against her back.
"Shhh." The alpha warned as she turned her head towards him in irritation.
William's eyes were wrought with worry as they surveyed the thick forest around them. The fog had long dissipated and the chill of the night was slowly dissolving into a slight warmth. His body straining against hers was hot, quickly warming her up. But what caught her attention was the fast paced heartbeat of the man.
She was sure that it was not from the excitement of being packed tight against her. The look of irritation creeping into his eyes confirmed it. Luna followed his gaze, trying to see what had triggered him. But her vision was not as sharp as the wolf's due to her body's weakness. William's body tensed as he seemed to have noticed something.
The goddess squirmed under him. "What do you think you're doing?" She asked accusingly.
"Stop talking." The alpha said, his voice low with tension.
That was when it happened. The stone lying underneath the layers of coarse cotton on her chest pulsed ever so slightly. A shocked gasp escaped her chest at the sudden warmth it emitted. She quickly looked down at the object, raising a hand to cover it immediately.
Thankfully, she was fast enough to hide it before the faint blue rays passed through the cloth. But her heart was beating fast in anticipation. The alpha still seemed to be too distracted to notice her actions and something told her that the destiny stone was pulsing because of that very same distraction. She had finally found the shard!
"W-what is it?" Luna asked as his gaze locked onto a particular spot between the tall, dark trees.
"Trouble." He replied, without taking his eyes off of the place.
Luna stayed silent, her eyes eagerly straining towards the forest that was enveloped in darkness. She heard a faint howl from somewhere beyond. At that moment, she wished she hadn't suppressed her powers. She could have seen her beloved without effort if so. Her heart thumped against her chest in excitement, but she was careful enough not to let it show on her face.
"Don't worry," William said, patting her shoulder reassuringly. "I will not let anything happen to you."
