Chapter 434 - 434: You Don't Act Like Siblings
Chapter 434 – 434: You Don’t Act Like Siblings
Vera growled, glancing at her pack members who refused to leave her alone with the alpha's slave. It was ironic. The woman who was supposed to hold the highest command on the Island was not getting her way today just because of a slave. The goddess wrapped her hands over her chest, looking the woman up and down.
She didn't plan on letting the opportunity go. If William wouldn't answer her, then she would get the answers out of this woman that he held so dear to his heart, she thought, smiling to herself. The she-wolf growled, glaring back at the slave who dared to look her in the eye.
"I said leave!" She screamed, her eyes glowing yellow in a threat.
The men looked at each other in a dilemma. Luna knew why they were nervous. If they left her alone, then William would kill them for disobedience. If they didn't then Vera would do the same. But when it came to loyalty, there was nothing that was more binding to a wolf than their alpha's command.
Seeing that they weren't budging from their position, Vera grunted, taking a step towards the slave in irritation.
"Fine." She said, narrowing her clear brown eyes at her. "Don't worry. I will get you alone one day soon."
The threat in her voice was clear. The wolf wanted to see her dead, now that she understood that her warnings were of no use. This was the woman's last straw breaking. Luna raised her brows, cocking her head to the side in confusion.
"I don't understand." She said, stepping closer to the beautiful woman in front of her. "What is your problem with me?" She asked, unshaken by the yellow glint in the wolf's eyes.
'Master, what is it that you're looking for?' The Dam Sehlah's voice echoed in her head. 'Oh, I see!'
Luna's expression didn't change as she watched the threat in the woman's eyes disappear. She kept her eyes steady on her face as she watched fear flash on the woman's features. It was somehow mixed with anger. Vera's nostrils flared.
"Because of you she-"
"She?" The goddess asked, interrupting the woman.
In the blink of an eye, the wolf's expression changed again. Her fear was replaced with a mask of pure hatred, purging every clue that her eyes had given away only seconds ago.
"I need you gone!" Vera exclaimed, her voice turning guttural. "Away from William!"
"Okay," Luna said, nodding her head. "But-"
"Vera." A familiar voice interrupted the goddess, ending her opportunity to strike the deal that she wanted to.
She cursed under her breath, stepping back from the startled she-wolf. The men bowed respectfully to their alpha as he strode towards his house in a hurry. Vera's heartbeat spiked at the sight of the handsome man walking towards her.
"B-brother. I-"
"You may go back to your room," William said, reaching out to grab the woman's shoulders in a tight grip. Vera shivered under his touch. The soft expression on his face was in stark contrast to the way that his fingers pushed into his sister's shoulders. "There's only a few minutes for the ritual to begin. You know that you have to be prepared for it. Don't you?" He asked, flashing a pair of sharp fangs with a smile.
"Yes, brother." The woman said, lowering her silvery-blonde head in submission.
The alpha's grip on her shoulders relaxed at her reply. "Good. Run along." He said, patting the side of her face affectionately.
Vera nodded, flashing a nervous smile at her brother. Taking one last glance at her enemy, she hurried away from the mud house. As soon as the woman disappeared, William turned to the men who still had their heads bent low.
"Go now." He said, waving at them dismissively. "The sun is almost down."
"Yes alpha!" The men echoed in unison before flashing out from their sight.
"You look like you were up to something," William said, finally turning to her.
Luna huffed, flinging her hair to the side in irritation. The man had spoiled her plans yet again. When he had handed over the medallion to her, she had thought that the man was completely smitten by her and had lost all his senses. But apparently not. Not once had he lowered his guard around her.
It was now obvious that he suspected her. The goddess turned away from the man walking back inside the house. Not once had he stayed there for more than half an hour. He seemed busy ever since the day in the forest. Whenever she chanced by him, he was always busy with a few of his pack members, discussing something or the other while pointing towards the direction where she had spotted the shard.
Kirk and Vera were somehow, always by him. Luna's frown deepened as she remembered the look on the woman's face a few minutes ago. That gaze by no means could pass for the affection towards a sibling. It seemed like she was really close to the answer she was looking for. But what was it? She wondered, ducking under the beaded curtain.
Seeing that the man was following close behind her, she stopped, turning to him abruptly. "You don't act like siblings." She said, her eyes narrowing at him in suspicion.
William shrugged. "Because we're not." He said dismissively.
"Hmmm?" The goddess asked, cocking her head to the side in confusion.
"My younger sister died at a small age." The alpha said with a sigh. "Vera has been trying to fill that space by calling me brother for all this time."
Luna raised her brows. "Wait, what?" She asked, looking surprised at the revelation.
"Why?" William asked, grabbing her chin as he closed the distance between them. "Are you jealous?" His lips tilted into a smirk, the lust in his eyes surfacing.
"No." The goddess replied, knocking his hand away. "I think it's sick. The girl is clearly infatuated with you. And yet, she calls you brother."
The alpha laughed at her reply, shaking his head. "If you're jealous, you can just tell me." He said, licking the tip of his fangs seductively. "I will help you out of it."
"Stay away." She warned, raising a hand to stop his advance. "I'm good."
William shook his head, straining his chest against her palm. "I know you miss me when I'm not here." He said, his voice dropping to a low purr.
"Nope," Luna replied, quickly taking her hand away from his chest. "I'm just curious about the whole creepy temple and the rituals."
"I can tell you if you join me tonight." He offered, looking at her expectantly.
The goddess frowned at his offer. She would have taken it under any other circumstance, thinking that she needed to get her job done. But she knew that such an act would reveal what she was hiding inside. The concentrated dark magic would unveil her powers and from then on, she'd have no other choice but to give her all to fight the pack.
"No," Luna said determinedly.
William shrugged. "It's okay. We have all the time in the world."He said, stepping away from her. "And as I promised you, I won't touch you till you ask me to."
The goddess rolled her eyes at the man. "Keep dreaming." She said, tying her hands over her chest.
He laughed at her answer, shaking his head as he walked towards the door. "But don't make me wait too long." He said, putting a hand over the metal handle. "One of these days, I might get impatient with your arrogant attitude and take you against your wish."
"Try me." She taunted, narrowing her eyes at him.
With a wink, the man shut the door close, locking it from the outside. The goddess's hands were clenched into fists as she heard his footsteps retreat. She waited for a whole fifteen minutes before she moved from her spot. This was an everyday ritual. But today was going to be different, she told herself as she stepped towards the door carefully.
"Is he gone?" She asked, her voice barely a whisper.
'Yes, I can feel the dark magic seeping up the forest again.' The Dam Sehlah's voice echoed in her head gleefully. 'Seems like the ritual has begun.'
"Good. Because we can't wait anymore." She said, putting a hand to her heart. A soft buzz spread through her heart as her powers slowly started slipping out of its binding. Just before the suppression spell cracked, she stopped, lowering her hand towards the door's handle. "I need to find the evidence as soon as possible."
