Chapter 433 – 433: The Entertainment
The next few days flew past her like the wind. When she had returned from her little trip to the forest, Luna had found a few men guarding the alpha's house. From that day on, the men followed her around everywhere she went, much to the disappointment of those who kept waiting for an opportunity to get rid of the nuisance that was taking up almost all of their alpha's time.
For the goddess, the attention was a headache. She couldn't move around like she pleased or look for clues concerning the Demon King's involvement with the pack. But when the night fell, and the entire Island went into a sick blood ritual, she would be left all alone behind a locked door in the alpha's room.
After two days of the same routine, Luna grew impatient. Knowing that it was her only way to the truth, she made sure to slip out a bit of her powers to feel around the place for any barriers. And so far, she had spotted only two wards on the Island that didn't seem like much. They seemed ancient- just like the mysterious temple in the middle of the Island.
As her chores increased and the security around her tightened, the goddess's temper was slowly slipping out of her hands. The alpha was trying everything he could to make her life difficult just because she wouldn't yield to him. And with every passing day, the darkness that surrounded him became thicker, to the point that she could barely keep her eyes from turning to it when he was around.
Luna grunted, throwing the dirty cloth to the side in frustration. "What am I missing here?" She mused aloud, a frown turning the corners of her mouth downward. "I feel like the evidence is dancing right under my nose and I'm still not able to get it."
'But I don't understand, master.' The Dam Sehlah said, pushing into the front of her head. 'Why are we looking for the Demon Prince?'
Luna put a hand to her head as the other stone shoved its way in. But she didn't say anything. She had by now gotten used to the headaches. The stones were her only companions. And they were the only ones with who she could brainstorm at the moment.
The pain was worse when her soul would start healing out of the blue. But at least, she was getting better with every passing day, she thought, leaning towards the window to pull the shutters in. The third day too had passed without any sign of the shard coming back into the Island.
She yearned for his presence, yet knew that even if she found him, she couldn't waste too much time dilly-dallying. She'd have to extract his soul before getting to know him any better. She kept telling herself that that was not the reason that she was delaying the mission. But it was getting harder to accept the truth with every passing day.
Luna shook her head, trying to break out of her thoughts. She closed the shutters, latching them securely before stepping away from the window. Taking a seat around the table, she lowered her head to the wooden surface, waiting for the routine visit of a certain someone. The Tohar Sehlah's voice distracted her from the thoughts of the shard, drawing her back to the task at hand.
'Because if he's here, then master would have to be more careful.' The white stone pointed out, looking down on the impulsive nature of its counterpart. 'What if Baraz were to find Sargon's soul shard before she managed to collect it?'
The Dam Sehlah groaned in protest. 'But why can't we just get out of the Island and find the shard?' The red stone asked, its tone tilting towards a whine.
"It's not as easy as you think," Luna said, interrupting the conversation. Her eyes roamed towards the beaded curtain that separated the room from the adjacent one. She could see the backs of the men who were guarding outside the door that was left wide open. Her voice consciously lowered accordingly. "If I waste too much magic on escaping from here, then I won't have any left to move to the next timeline."
'But you're pretty much healed now, master.' The Dam Sehlah pointed out.
"Yes." The goddess replied, nodding in agreement. "But for now, I can only afford one big trick. No more."
Her sigh passed over the polished surface, coating it with a thin film of moisture before it vanished into thin air. Why was the day so long? She wondered. And where was her guest? The woman had threatened her yesterday to come again if she didn't heed her words. But the threat seemed to be wearing thin as the time passed with no sign of the fiery wolf.
There was something about the woman that intrigued her. Unlike the others, she was not masking hatred. No, it was something else. And she'd only get to know if she got a close look at the woman. And today was supposed to be that day when she got that opportunity. The sun was already setting. Yet there was no sign of the she-wolf.
Just as she was about to give up on the wait, the goddess heard a sound coming from the direction of the door. Luna raised her head from the wooden surface in expectation, her eyes lighting up as she realized that her guest had arrived.
"Ahh, my wait is over." She whispered gleefully as she eased out of the chair and stretched.
"Don't you know who I am?!" A shrill voice came from the entrance of the alpha's house.
She could see a pale hand moving vigorously in the air trying to make way through the men who were now surrounding her guest. Luna chuckled as she moved past the beaded curtain and towards the hall that led outside the mud house. This was a good distraction indeed, she thought to herself as she tucked her hair behind her ears happily.
"We're sorry, Vera." She heard one of the men say. "We have no choice."
A low growl emitted from her guest, threatening to fight her way through if they left her no choice. The goddess stopped just before the door, turning to the she-wolf who was getting agitated by the minute. Her eyes met the woman's clear brown ones as she faked a gasp of surprise.
"Oh my. Did the princess come for a visit?" Luna asked, the smile on her face growing wide with joy.
