Chapter 441 - 441: Making The Choice
Chapter 441 – 441: Making The Choice
Luna gritted her teeth, looking at the dark blood that rushed out of his wound. It was obvious that it was not caused by a mere nick of a wolf's claw. The wound refused to heal and his body was fast growing cold. She could smell the stench of dark magic emanating from it.
The image of a certain witch flashed in her mind. She was the only one on the island capable of inflicting such a wound. Anger coursed through her veins as she glared at the gushing blood. She placed a gently hand on his chest and closed her eyes, trying to assess the damage. It seemed like the dagger had barely missed his heart.
"You're going to pay for this Circe." The goddess muttered in irritation as she leaned away from the man.
The situation left her no choice. Luna looked around, her brows scrunched in worry. If he had encountered Circe, then there was no doubt that the witch was close by. The woman had been so careful up to this point, going to such lengths to hide her identity. What had made the woman so angry at the wolf that she lost sight of the bigger picture? She wondered.
Luna knew that she barely had enough magic in her to save him. Fighting the witch would have to be postponed for another day. If she wanted to heal the shard, she'd have to be careful with her every move. The energy from the shard was growing more feeble by the second. Time was ticking.
The forest was filled with the sounds of screams and growls, echoing from the scene of violence a few feet away from the wild canopy that covered the well-maintained path to the alpha's house. Dawn was fast changing into day. It seemed to her that the fight had been going on for too long.
Seeing that there were no movements from surrounding forests, the goddess's shoulders relaxed ever so slightly. She knew that though the fight was now distant, it could move towards them any moment now. With a final glance at the mud house, she raised her hand to her chest, drawing out the magic that she had sealed only moments ago.
Her brows knitted in concentration as she struggled to carry the weight of the unconscious man while trying to peel off the spell from her soul. With every drop in his heartbeat, her concentration faltered. When the seal finally started giving way, a voice echoed in her head, the white stone's tone sounding urgent.
'Master! If they sense you-'
"Only for a while." She whispered through clenched teeth, trying her best not to scream in pain as the white-hot energy poured out of her.
Within seconds, the goddess was wrapped in an ethereal glow, brighter than the slightly pinkish sun that was still struggling to rise above the horizon. Magic coursed through her veins, stronger than any spell that a witch could concoct. The whole forest was enraptured by her presence, the early morning birds perching on the lowest of branches to get a glimpse of the breathtaking woman sitting on the grass bed.
Without wasting another second, she stood up, carrying the man in her arms with ease. Slashing the air before her, she stepped into the portal that formed before her. In the blink of an eye, she was back at the edge of the Island, where the forest line gave way to a short distance of sand-covered beach running along the waterline.
Her knees wobbled as she stepped onto the sand. The spells were taking a toll on her still-recovering soul. She almost lost her footing as she placed the man on the warming sand. He looked pitiful, lying there on the ground, his face covered in dirt and the wound under his arm still bleeding heavily.
'Phew! That was a close call!' The Dam Sehlah exclaimed. 'If we had stayed there for a second longer, they would have sensed you.'
'We're still not too far.' The Tohar Sehlah said, its tone tense. 'Her aura is way too powerful. We could be found any moment now.'
'Master, what will we do?' The red stone asked, adding to her tension.
'I don't think she would have enough magic left in her to escape if she were to heal him.' The white stone added, pacing back and forth inside her head worriedly.
"If you two can shut up for some time," Luna said, her fists clenched in irritation. "I could get this done with quicker."
The stones immediately quieted down, but refused to move away from her primary consciousness. They hovered in her mind, eagerly observing every move of hers. Luna was tensed, mostly because she knew what the stones said was right. She had spent way too much magic than she was supposed to tonight.
Even if she were to heal him, she'd barely have enough magic left in her to push him into the tiniest of portals. She cursed her luck and raised her hand, her lips moving silently as she started gathering all her magic into her palm.
Her heartbeat rose, and her breathing grew strained. Beads of perspiration formed on her flawless skin, sliding down from her temples at a slow pace. Her eyes were glued onto the beautiful man on the sand, his face inches from her own as she bent closer to him. Her heart ached, knowing that she'd lose him just as she had found him.
"Please work." She whispered as she slammed her hand onto his chest.
The shock of the hit made his body jerk up. White-hot light spread across the beach, covering every inch with its luminescence, outshining the sun's rays and blinding any onlooker. As the magic coursed into his body, Luna let out a silent scream, her neck arching back in pain.
The energy that held the shards of her soul together was fast pouring out of her, ripping the barely healed soul of the moon goddess with an intense force. The pain was blinding, like a hundred daggers being thrust into her flesh at the same time. She was reminded of the day when her soul was shattered and the white-hot pain that followed. It was incomparable.
The sky darkened with the goddess's angst and clouds formed over the Island, covering the young sun that had risen over the land. She could feel the stones being pushed away from her consciousness forcibly by her own magic.. She clenched her teeth, turning to the man as her body started shaking.
