Chapter 440 - 440: It's You
Chapter 440 – 440: It’s You
Taking one last look at the two dozen children sleeping on and around the huge bed, Luna stepped out of the room with a relieved expression. Although she had spent way too much magic than she had planned to spend tonight, she felt that it was worth it.
Maybe it was because they unconsciously prayed to her during every full moon. She felt partly responsible for these innocent lives. She couldn't leave the kids be to have a traumatic experience ruin their entire childhood.
She was just closing the door to the mud house when suddenly she heard the soft crunch of footsteps on broken branches. Her hands froze as the destiny stone began to pulse. A thousand emotions rushed into her head, wrapping around her entire consciousness like an electric coil that was strangely making her feel body tremble with every breath she took..
Tears flooded her eyes as she quickly turned around, eager to see the one in whose search she had begun her journey. Her blurry vision watched a tall man approach her, making his way through the walkway slowly. She blinked, dabbing the back of her hand over her eyes, her yearning for him, taking control of her senses.
The man in front of her was breathtakingly gorgeous, like the shining sun that he was. Other than a hastily wrapped cloth over his waist, he was butt naked, his hard-toned muscles making him look like a carved jade statue. She could hear the hum of his luminescent soul reaching out to her unconsciously.
But his chiseled face was a picture of conflicting emotions- somewhere between angry and joyous. His every step was cautious, like a lion undecided if it wanted to eat the cub in front of it or reach out and wrap it in a warm embrace. The expression made her smile. It reminded her of the sun god's face when he had chanced upon someone professing his love to her.
It was overly familiar. The man who carried the soul shard within him was a spitting image of a certain wolf who she had cherished so much in her last life as an earthling. But his green sparkling green eyes that reflected the early rays of dawn reminded her of the dragon prince who had put down everything he had for her.
For a second, it felt like Sol himself was walking towards her, his every movement enticing her senses. The corners of her mouth stretched into a wide smile watching the breathtakingly gorgeous wolf slowly close the gap between them. Her hands itched to reach out and push through the brown waves of silky tresses that reached up to his shoulders. But he stopped a foot short of her, his brows scrunching into a suspicious arch.
"Where are the children?" He asked, his voice like a soft silk cloth caressing her mind.
Luna shivered with pleasure, stepping towards him hurriedly. "It's you!" She exclaimed, her hands raised towards his face in awe.
The man ducked to the side, sliding away from her moments before her finger almost grazed his dirt-covered face. The goddess frowned at the movement, disappointed by his response. But the two seconds of yearning that flashed in his eyes did not go unnoticed.
'Master, don't scare the shard. It's probably confused right now.' The Tohar Sehlah's voice echoed in her head, reminding her of the man's identity.
Luna sighed, putting her hand down. "You're right." She whispered, taking a step back from the man.
He must be confused as to who she was and why he was feeling what he did in the absence of a mate's bond. Luckily, her magic was sealed. Or else the man would have panicked, unable to comprehend what being she was. With the little lingering magic that clung to her, she must appear to him like a witch. No wonder he looked so conflicted, she thought, shaking her head.
"You must be a witch." He said, a frown starting to pull down the corners of his wet lips.
Luna took a deep breath, trying to concentrate on his words rather than his appearance. This was not the Sol she knew. This was a wolf who was born into this world as an anomaly, tearing through the fabric of time, without a written fate of its own, clueless to the memories of his own soul and the woman he had given his all to.
'It doesn't matter, master.' The Tohar Sehlah said, reading her mind. 'If you take the shard out now, you can reunite with the sun god faster.'
The goddess nodded in agreement. The stone was right. All she needed to do was take the shard out, and she could continue with her journey. The faster she completed her mission, the better it would be for everyone. The fate of the world depended on her reaching back to the spiritual realm with the sun god's soul intact.
'But master, there's something wrong with him.' The Dam Sehlah's voice reached out to her, its tone contemplative. 'Don't you feel the instability of the shard?'
She raised her brows at the stone's comment, all her attention suddenly on the man in front of her. It was right. Something was wrong. The shard's energy was unstable, its energy flickering as he strained to take deep breaths. Her heart dropped at the realization. But before she could say anything more, he stepped forward, narrowing his eyes at her.
"The children, what did you do to them?" He asked, his green eyes losing their sparkle with every passing moment.
"They're safe inside," Luna murmured distractedly, her eyes scanning his body for any apparent signs of injury.
Whatever had happened was draining his life fast, and along with it, destroying the shard from within. If he were to die then and there, the soul shard inside him would break into smaller pieces and get further dispersed through time. She'd then have more shards to go after.
The goddess frowned. No, she did not have the time for it. More than a week had passed on earth after her arrival. One-fourth of a day should have passed in the spiritual realm. The war was fast approaching, and she still had to find Zack after gathering all the shattered pieces of the sun god's soul. She had no other option than to save him, she thought to herself.
She had barely raised her hand to her chest when the man's knees buckled. He fell forward, his legs failing him. Without a second thought, Luna rushed to his side, opening her arms wide to shield his body from the cold hard ground. The two of them fell to the mud-packed floor with a thud, a grunt escaping out of the goddess's chest.
Cursing under her breath, Luna sat up, lifting his body to her chest. A wet feeling spread across her thighs, soaking into the coarse material of her dress. The scent of blood filled the air. The man raised his face towards her weakly, struggling to keep his eyes open. He opened his mouth to say something but no sound accompanied it. The very next moment, his eyes closed and his body slackened in her arms, the entire weight of the man pushing against her body.
Luna's eyes widened in fright. "No, no, no!" She exclaimed, "Stay awake!"
