Chapter 443 - 443: Accused A Witch

Chapter 443 – 443: Accused A Witch

Luna gasped, sitting up in a hurry. Her eyes searched the dark room with a startled expression. Her heart was beating against her chest frantically as she took in the familiar surroundings. She was back in William's house and her head felt like it was being split in two.

She pinched her cheek just to make sure that she was not stuck in another one of her nightmares. The pain was nothing compared to the headache. It was not a dream. She had lost the perfect chance to extract the soul shard and had given her identity away.

"Damn it!" She cursed, pushing away the soft, cozy blanket that covered her legs.

Her heart hammered against her chest as she walked back and forth the expanse of the alpha's bedroom worriedly. Blurry images of William's face came rushing into her memories. She remembered how uncomfortable his body heat was as he held her close to him, shivering with an array of emotions as he did.

She remembered the shouts and the warnings that he was giving to the rest of his pack. There was no doubt that he had realized something about her existence. But what exactly did he understand? Would he too have mistaken her for a witch then?

She hoped that was the case. It would be easier to deal with, Luna thought, her eyes constantly darting towards the closed door that led outside. He had refused to believe her lie when she had first arrived. But for some reason he had been patient with her all along, never asking her more than she was willing to reveal.

Now that she thought back about it, she didn't like any of it. The way that he treated her differently from others, the way that he made excuses for her, and most importantly, the way that he looked at her. No, she wasn't meant for anyone else.

How could a mere earthling look at her that way? She thought, her heart caving at the thought of the consequences. His feelings could only mean that she had touched the man in some way, and there was a high possibility that she had hence altered the timeline.

"Hey stones," She asked, drawing out a chair for herself. "What do I do?"

There was no reply. Apart from the fast-paced sound of her pulse, she couldn't hear anything else. Luna frowned, leaning her hands on the table for support. She felt weak for some reason. Was it the consequence of her draining almost all of her magic?

"Stones?" She called again, this time propping her head onto her hands in irritation. "Are you there?"

She was greeted by cold silence and the annoying throb of her headache that refused to subside. She was starting to feel sick, almost reminding her of the times she got feverish as an earthling. The silence of the room was getting to her. Suddenly, she was feeling all alone.

In her effort to find the stones, she tapped on the spot above her heart, pulling out the little magic that she had left in her. Whispering something under her breath, she probed through her soul, searching for the presence of the usually talkative stones.

"Why can't I even sense them?" She asked, her brows scrunched in irritation. The very next moment, the ache skyrocket, making her bend over in pain. "Ugh!" She hissed, holding her head tightly between her hands.

Knowing that she had no other option, she released the magic, letting it return to her. White-hot energy poured into her, instantly reducing the pain, like a soothing balm. Luna cursed under her breath, hating the phase that her body was going through.

She got up from the chair, wanting to get some fresh air, unbothered by what people might have to say about her once they meet them. But the questions pushed into her head nonetheless. Do the others know? Did William tell them? What would they think she was? Probably a witch of some sort, she thought, answering her own question.

Just as she was about to open the door, she stopped, cocking her head to the side as she listened to two pairs of hurried footsteps. A familiar voice followed soon after.

"William, wait!" Vera's shout echoed through the pathway, reaching all the way up to the door behind which the goddess was hiding.

"What is it Vera?!" William sounded annoyed as he stopped to answer the woman.

Luna raised her brows, intrigued at the exchange. The alpha was not one to behave in such a manner with the she-wolf. He had always been considerate of her feelings. Something seemed to have changed between the two of them, she thought, bending down to peep through a crack in the door.

"What are you doing?! This is so unlike you!" Vera exclaimed, reaching out to grab the man's arm. Her eyes were wide in shock and desperation, tears beginning to pool in them. "Why are you protecting her?!"

"It is none of your business!" The alpha shouted, pulling away from her with an angry glare.

Vera staggered back a few steps, taken aback by the intensity of his gaze. Her lips trembled as a tear slipped down her cheek. "But we-"

William sighed, guilt flashing across his face. "Look Vera, what happened between us, was a mistake." He said with a frown. "It shouldn't have happened in the first place. You're like a sister to me."

Luna rolled her eyes at the comment. Men, she thought, shaking her head. Who talks like that after being so intimate with each other? She narrowed her eyes at the woman standing before the alpha. Who was she today? Was it the witch, or was it the she-wolf herself? She wondered, confused for a moment.

There was no way to get to know that without her magic. The woman Circe was too powerful for her to sense at her weak stage. Whatever the case be, the woman truly was putting on a spectacular show, she thought, missing the snark remarks of the stones.

"How easily you dismiss it all like that!" Vera exclaimed, pointing straight at the alpha's house. "All this for a witch who is cheating you into thinking she's someone else!"
