Part Wolf

Chapter 447 - 447: Wolfbreak

Chapter 447 – 447: Wolfbreak

Luna grumbled something, senselessly turning to the other side as she pulled the soft cushion closer to her chest. It felt good. The mattress felt oddly comfortable, much more than she remembered the alpha's bedding to be. There was a sweet scent that clung to the sheets as well.

"Hmm," the goddess murmured sleepily, nuzzling her face into the pillow, "this smells like-"

That was when she realized it. It smelled too good to be true. A scent that was a mixture of the wettest forests and mild, sweet honey with a soft note, something that reminded her of roasted chestnuts. Her eyes flew wide open, every cell of her body wide awake within seconds. As her vision adjusted to the light of the setting sun that poured through a pair of ornate glass windows decorated with the most intricate of woodworks on their frames.

Unlike the huge mud house that she was used to, this room felt gigantic, with its cold stone walls and plush furniture. Dark velvet drapes hung around the tall bed frame, coupled by much thinner white curtains gathered around the ornate poles with a metallic ring.

A pile of burning wood made crackling noises as it slowly died out inside the spacious fireplace, separated from the heavily carpeted floors by a pair of metal doors. But other than the decorations worked into the architecture of the room, the place had a luxuriously minimalistic touch to it, with only a sturdy wooden chair and a side table being the only furniture in the room besides the huge king-sized bed.

Her memories flooded back into her head, reminding her of the teary walk that she had taken through the forested path outside the alpha's house as dawn was breaking. Then why was she here? She thought in confusion. The goddess raised her hand to her face, pinching it with all her strength to check if she was still in a dream.

"Ouch!" She yelped aloud.

At that, Luna beamed, her heartbeat rising as she realized that she was kidnapped. She took in a deep breath, taking in as much air as her chest could hold. His scent clung to every inch of the place. Pulling the heavy white blanket closer to her neck, she giggled like a teenager excited to wake up in her dream world. She stretched on the bed, refusing to let go of anything that smelled of him.

As the pillow beneath her head pressed against the nape of her neck, she paused, the corners of her lips pulling down into a frown. If she remembered it right, someone had hit her behind her head. She had felt something cutting through her skin. It had hurt so much that the pain had rendered her unconscious.

But for some reason, her head didn't hurt at all. By the state her body had been when she left the alpha's residence, she mustn't have healed already. Luna raised her hand, slipping it behind her head in confusion, fumbling around the area for any trace of a wound. Her eyes grew wide as her fingers grazed against a patch of dried blood.

"How?" She murmured to herself as she pressed against the wound in disbelief.

It was not just that the wound had healed completely, but the headache that had haunted her ever since the day with the shard- no, Liam. That was his name. Her body felt much lighter and the insides of her palms were not as pale anymore. The goddess sat up, confused by her healed body.

She placed a hand on her chest, checking to see the depth of her magic. Luna gasped in surpise. The last time she had checked, it was almost drained, to the point that her healing soul had started to crack again. But now, her soul felt intact again, magic coursing through its cracks continuously in an effort to keep the shards together. She had regained at least half the magic that she had lost to Liam on that day.

"Stones?" She called out hopefully, "Are you there?"

There was no reply. Luna sighed, shaking her head. She missed their company. At least if they responded, she'd know how her body had healed at a lightning pace. Pulling the blanket along with her, the goddess slipped out of the bed, placing her pale feet on the carpeted floor.

She walked towards the huge open windows, turning her back to the gigantic wooden doors that remained closed. If she guessed right, Liam must have placed guards by the door. She could hear as much from the hushed murmurs coming from the other side. It brought a smile to her lips.

It seemed like the shard was bothered by her. What exactly had happened while she was unconscious? And why had Liam come back for her so soon? She wondered, leaning against the windowsill ever so slightly. She watched the setting sun lower itself to a shallow valley, its golden glory filling the expansive town that surrounded it with an ethereal glow.

From where she stood, she could see that she was in a two-storeyed mansion, too big to not be called a palace. Surrounding it was a lush garden, filled with pale pink roses interspersed with huge white ones. Everything was well maintained, from the flower bushes to the thick hedges that marked the boundary between the greenery and the wide paved road that lead to a pair of ornate metal gates.

"So this is Wolfbreak." She murmured, smiling to herself as she took in the mansion and the bustling town a few feet away from the tall stone walls that surrounded the building.

Even at sunset, the town was busy with sounds of laughter and calls of offers from the shopkeepers. It was her first time being in a place like this. The wolves seemed to blend into the group of humans, interacting with them as if they had no differences at all. She wondered if the human knew of the presence of the wolves. She was awestruck by the sight.

In all her years, she had never seen anything like it. As she watched on, a polished wooden carriage drawn by two white horses came to a stop at the mansion's gates. Out of nowhere, wolves, still in their human forms, flashed to the place, hurrying to open the gates as if their lives depended on it.

Once the carriage was inside, the two well-dressed men closed the gates behind them, shutting the access to the building off to the rest of the town. Unaware of the eyes that followed them, they quickly walked towards the vehicle, eager to greet whoever was inside.

Luna leaned forward, her curiosity getting the best of her. From inside the carriage, a polished pair of high boots came out first, followed by a body wrapped in the most expensive silk and a head full of soft brown hair. The wolves bowed in submission to the man, standing on one knee as he glided past them like a soft breeze.

His chiseled face held a hardened expression as he did, his deep green eyes looking distracted as he kept walking. Luna smiled, feeling the tingle of his presence in her soul. As if struck by lightning, Liam stopped, his head whipping towards her direction in surprise.

"You.." He whispered, staring at her with his mouth wide open.
