Chapter 446 - 446: May We Not Meet Again

Chapter 446 – 446: May We Not Meet Again

The goddess cocked her head to the side, confused at his fluctuating mood. She didn't understand why he was laughing at such a moment. Had she said anything funny? She wondered, observing the way his adam's apple bobbed up and down.

But what happened next took her by surprise. Before she could react, his hand shot out towards her. Luna gasped, taken aback by the sudden assault. In the shadows that the moonlight cast on his figure, she could see the darkness around him growing. His eyes sparkled in a dangerous shade of yellow as he pulled her close to him, his fingers tightening around her pale neck.

"Who do you think you are to talk to me like that?!" Willaim's voice boomed through the room, everything about him fast being consumed by the growing darkness.

Luna wasn't bothered by the physical threat the man posed to her. The most that he could do to her in this condition was to slow her healing process down by breaking a few bones. But what she was concerned about was the pace at which the darkness was growing. Her heart sank, realizing that she had miscalculated.

It seemed like she had somehow provoked it to grow around his fate. She cursed in her mind, hoping that she hadn't sped up the pace of his ill fate's development. His eyes glinted with a dark desire as he hissed, baring his fangs as he leaned towards her neck with hunger.

"Y-You promised." Luna stuttered, struggling to speak with his talons straining against her throat.

The alpha paused, leaning back to look her in the eyes. A flicker of sadness flashed through his eyes before he screamed in rage. Raising her high above the ground, he flung her to the bed with much force. The goddess crashed onto the mattress, her back hitting the soft surface with a muted thud.

"I am tired of this shit!" William screamed, pointing a shaky finger at her. "I am tired of taking care of you when you don't even bother looking my way! Yet I could see the relief in your eyes when you fainted in my arms, sending that mutt away safely!"

Luna sat up hastily, sensing the thickening air of darkness starting to pulse as if about to burst. Her eyes grew wide as she saw the first flash of red pushed into his irises. It was at that moment that she realized what the darkness surrounding him was. His fate was to become the first beast to take the life of the Chosen One.

Whatever spell that Circe had put on him had gotten activated at her presence, probably mistaking her for the chosen one. An odd sense of dread filled her, probably pushed by the fear of the memories of the creature in her lives as the chosen one. Her fingers tightened around her aching chest.

"W-William, you-"

"Shut up!" The alpha shouted, the veins in his neck bulging with pressure. "You are only a woman! A slave! My slave!"

Without thinking too much, the goddess flashed to his side, grabbing his shoulders with determination. "Stop, before it consumes you." She said, looking into his eyes in desperation.

At that moment, it didn't occur to her that she was unknowingly hoping to change the events that were about to unfold. If the stones were around, they would have probably warned her of the same. But they weren't. At her touch, the alpha calmed down, the anger leaving his features, replacing it with a heartbroken look.

At that moment, he was pitiful. A man who was helpless in the hands of the fate that came calling to him. She wondered if it was mere chance that picked him out of the many wolves out there to become the first among the monsters to tear the moon goddess's reincarnations apart.

William took a deep breath before stepping away from her. He turned towards the window, his eyes trained on the forest beyond as he said, "Leave. I don't want to see you anymore. Vera was right. You're not worth it."

The goddess raised her brows at his statement. She was confused. Had she heard that right? Was he really asking her to leave? "What?" She asked, her voice breaking from the emotions that threatened to burst through her being any moment now.

"Leave, now!" The alpha thundered, not caring to turn to her. "Before I change my mind."

Luna bit her lip, trying to hold in a sob. She didn't understand what was wrong with her. Was she feeling guilty? Was it anger? Pity? Or was it her helplessness at being unable to stop the fate that was fast unfolding before her? She wondered, her eyes filling with tears.

But she knew that such an opportunity would be hard to come by. If she were not going to take the chance, she'd be staying on the Island, wasting more time away from the shard. And heaven knows what the wolves were planning to do with her, come tomorrow.

"Fine." She said through clenched teeth. Reaching out to the mattress, she flipped the closest pillow, retrieving the metal token that was handed to her only a few days ago. Thrusting it towards the alpha, she said, "Here you go."

William huffed, turning towards her with a smirk. "What use is that to me?" He asked, looking at the carved metal in her hands. "Keep it. Maybe one day, it will be of use to you."

Luna gritted her teeth, pulling her hands back. "Thank you, then." She said, forcing a smile on her lips. "May we not meet again."

Just as she turned towards the door, she caught a glimpse of the pain in his eyes. But she didn't hesitate to walk away. The moment she stepped out of the house, she heard a huge crashing noise from inside. But she didn't stop. With tears streaming down her face, the goddess kept walking, clutching the strange token tightly in her hands.

The dark blue of the night was slowly fading into a shade of pink. A million thoughts plagued her mind. The sounds of the early birds echoed through the forest as they rushed to greet her. But she didn't have the heart to smile. At that moment, she felt violated by fate. By the wrinkly old gods that controlled the lives of gods and others alike.

It must have been because she was too occupied by her own thoughts that she failed to notice the shadow that followed her every footstep. It must have been her heavy heart that blinded her to the faint pulse of the destiny stone throbbing against her chest. Only when a warm touch grazed against her bare neck did she come to her senses.

The next thing she knew, she was in pain. A stinging pain that cut through a point on the nape of her neck. For some reason, she found solace in the darkness that enveloped her and the coldness that came with it.. She let herself fall back onto the forest floor, thanking whoever it was that if only for a moment had put her out of her misery.
