Chapter 449 - 449: Fallen In Love
Chapter 449 – 449: Fallen In Love
Liam's POV
He had waited an hour outside the huge temple-like structure with strange red stones for the pack to walk out. It would be the perfect ambush, he told himself as he waited for her to come out so that he could take her away from the place before it all went down. And so, he had asked his soldiers to wait even when a strange woman left the place, followed by William a few minutes later.
Both of them reeked of blood and something else. Something that he didn't want to know about. Even long after the alpha came out from the temple, the wolves were still inside the building with strange sounds coming out through the gap between the half-opened doors. It was Isaac who got impatient at last and barged into the building.
Liam had no choice but to let his soldiers join the man. But what he saw upon entry shocked him. It was gruesome and perverted. And so, he only glanced through the crowd, praying that the one he was looking for was not amongst the lewd pack. As the packs clashed, he found himself relieved to find that she was nowhere near the area.
As the fight raged, the fog cleared. The wolves streamed out of the temple, close at each other's neck. The humans and fae that were tied to the chains were long dead. It was then that he found the children, huddled close in one of the houses.
He hardly had time to send them off to a safer place when he met William. It wasn't that hard for him to push him down, but the strange woman that accompanied him had screamed something strange, thrusting a dagger into his back while he was busy fighting his enemy. He had never felt pain like that before. It was excruciating.
And so, he had fled, not knowing where he was running towards, but he had ended up before her. The woman that he had unconsciously fallen in love with. He remembered the warm feeling that enveloped him as she held him in his arms, her tears dripping down her chin, only to hit his face.
He didn't know why she was crying. But it relieved him to know that she was crying for him. She had smelled so good, like wet earth and something sweet, that he couldn't quite put his finger on. He had laughed at himself, finding it weird that he was thinking about such a silly thing as he was dying. He wanted to fight that feeling, but yet, he didn't.
It was strange when she had saved him, asking if he trusted her. He didn't know the answer to that himself. But yet, when she did, he felt more alive than he ever had been. It was his first time experiencing what he could only call magic. It had felt warm and cozy, like a soft blanket enveloping one on a cold day.
Yet, he knew that the magic that he felt from her and the woman with William was immensely different. He was surprised when he reached back to Wolfbreak in his mansion without a scratch, and sad that he had left her behind. Thankfully, most of his pack had survived as well, reaching the place a day after him.
Each hour after their arrival was torture for him. Isaac had tonnes of information on the traitor's pack. The soldiers were excited that although they weren't able to bring back what the king had asked for, their little trip had not been in vain.
Apparently, the temple that they had chanced upon was the source of all the dark magic that flowed through the forest. At least, that's what Isaac thought. According to him, William's rumored woman was injured from the events of the night and was bedridden in the alpha's chambers.
They had thought of kidnapping her at first, but one such effort had cost them a man. Hence they had no choice but to abandon that mission. Liam had barely stopped himself from choking his childhood friend to death when he had said that. For some reason, he felt strangely possessive about the woman.
He hated that everyone called her William's woman. It made him wonder if there was something going on between the two of them. The idea had almost driven him mad. That was when Isaac suggested that they attempt to kidnap her again, this time, going alone on their own, he immediately agreed.
They had barely reached the Island when they spotted her walking around in the forest like a ghost. Neither of them saw her face, yet they recognized her from behind, or rather, he did. Isaac was too quick to burst into action when he got the confirmation. The idiot had struck her unconscious with his stupid claws, inflicting quite deep an injury on the nape of her neck.
His friend was lucky that he only broke his nose for it, he thought, shaking his head. They had brought her back to his mansion stealthily, without letting anyone know of it. He had to beg Isaac to keep it a secret. Upon settling her in his room, he had lied to everyone including his pack members that she was a rebel that he came across.
By all rights, she was now his. He could do whatever he wanted with her as long as Isaac kept quiet. But the idiot had gone and blabbered it to the princess when they met at the palace. And now, he was taking the both of them to his mansion to see the woman. He didn't even know her name yet, yet he knew that he would kill anyone who would dare to cast their eyes on her.
"But Liam, how could you keep this a secret from my father?" Alicia asked, tugging on his sleeves with a displeased expression. "If he knew-"
Liam glared at the princess, pulling his hand away from her. "Then keep your mouth shut." He warned as the coach slowed down in front of the mansion.
"That's not fair, alpha," Isaac said, frowning at him from the opposite side. "Why are you taking it out on her?"
Liam took a deep breath before turning to his friend. The man was rubbing on his bad side from the morning. At least, he didn't have to bear sitting with the both of them anymore, he thought as the coach came to halt in front of the mansion. Two of his men hurried to open the door for him.
"We've reached my house," Liam said as he thrust his feet outside. "If I see any of you put your filthy hands on her. Then I swear to the goddess-"
"Faaaine!" Isaac said, shaking his head. "Go out already."
Liam huffed as he stepped outside the carriage, walking past the bowing men with a frown. He didn't like the fact that Alicia knew about his secret. Not that he didn't trust her, but he didn't like the way that she looked at him. He had heard the rumors of how the princess had scarred the bodies of countless women who had approached him with another motive.
He was aware of her feelings, but he had never felt that way with her. He was nothing more than his employer's daughter to him, someone who his friend cherished a lot. And Isaac's love life was not something that he wanted to interfere in.
He had barely taken ten steps from the carriage when he felt it- a warm tingle at tugging at his heart from somewhere above. Confused, he turned to the direction, his eyes following the trail of windows on the second floor until he reached one that was left wide open.
His heart skipped a beat at the sight of the woman leaning out the window, a slow smile growing on her cherry-red lips. At that moment, he couldn't see or feel anything else. The whole world paled in front of the beauty with sparkling gray eyes.
"You-" He found himself whispering while his jaw slackened in awe.
Her smile widened as she waved at him excitedly, like a little girl. That was the moment that he knew that there was no looking back from this. He had fallen in love with this ethereal woman who had crashed into his life without a warning.
His legs moved before his rationality caught up.. And before he knew it, he was standing before the very doors that he had carefully closed on his way out of the room only a few hours ago.
