Chapter 462 - 462: Hello, You
Chapter 462 – 462: Hello, You
But that was something only she knew. His concern was to protect her, the same way she wanted to untangle the knot binding him to the princess. She crossed her arms over her chest as an idea occurred to her.
"I will help you on one condition." The goddess said, raising her chin upwards.
Liam frowned, not used to such bargains. "Yes?" He asked, his shoulders taut with tension.
"The spell," Luna said, stepping forward with a determined look painted over her features. "I need you to tell me everything about it."
The man's eyes widened for a moment, shocked by her demand, the challenge to his authority suddenly forgotten. His mouth parted slightly as he stared at her in disbelief. "I-"
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. The sound shook the alpha out of his state. His features turned blank once again as he quickly turned towards the direction, tearing his gaze off of her eyes.
"Come in, Isaac." He commanded, his voice authoritative as it bounced across the painted walls.
The door clicked open as the beta slipped inside, bowing to his alpha before straightening his shoulders.
"What is it?" Liam asked, his voice bereft of the tension that masked his face only seconds ago.
"The woman is waiting in your office," Isaac replied.
The alpha nodded at his friend before turning towards her. "Shall we?" He asked, extending a hand towards her.
Luna looked at the white of his palm, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. The man seemed to be the king of escaping maneuvers. But she was not going to let him slip by that easily, she thought as she slid her hand into his. Before he could turn, she grabbed his chin with her free hand, tipping it towards her.
"Your promise." She whispered, conscious of the way his body stiffened at the touch.
She watched his adam's apple bob as he gulped his saliva, trying to suppress the reaction that was fast spreading through his nerves. The green in his eyes darkened in lust as he took in a shaky breath, his heart hammering against his chest, pulsing against the tip of her elbow.
Unable to stop herself, her thumb roamed around the edges of his lower lip, her body reacting to the heat pushing towards her from his body. Liam stepped back, grabbing her hand to release his face from her grip, with a look of irritation as he glanced back at his beta.
"We will talk about this later." He murmured before quickly walking towards Isaac who was trying his best to keep the smirk off of his face.
"Good enough," Luna said with a shrug, following behind the men as they walked out the room.
The climb upstairs was silent, with the two men busy talking to each other through the bond. At one point of time, Liam let out a muffled growl, glaring at his laughing beta. But that was all the sound she heard from the two.
The silence gave her time to think. The clock was ticking. She had already spent way too many days than she had planned to in this timeline. If she had to get back before the imminent war in the spiritual realm, she had to solve the case soon and move on.
The lanterns flickering dimly in the corridor made long shadows on the walls of the three figures moving quietly towards the end of the path where the moonlight streamed in from a tall window. She watched the red tendril of light snaking across the alpha's body with a frown.
If only she knew how it all fit into the puzzle, maybe she would be able to cut the ropes before it could choke him any further. But she was blind to the future that was to be, fate mistakenly wrapping its tendrils around the shard of Sol's soul instead of someone else.
As they stopped in front of a door, the men paused, turning towards her expectantly.
"Go on in. I'll join you in a while." She said, nodding towards the double doors. "Keep the door open. I want to know what she's plotting."
Isaac opened one of the doors, stepping aside for his alpha to enter, leaving the door ajar as he too slipped inside quietly. She could hear the rustle of clothes and the sound of chairs being dragged back.
"Alpha." People echoed in unison as they greeted their alpha.
Luna stepped aside, drawing a tendril on moonlight and slipping it inside the room. With a wave of her hand, fog covered her surroundings. The cloud-like particle stretched and dragged until it formed a surface as clear as glass, mirroring the insides of the room.
She looked around until she spotted the girl. Vera. She was sitting there in the middle of a dozen men and women who were now turning back to her from their alpha, their eyes hardened as they watched the girl carefully, alert to every moment of hers.
"Alpha?" Vera asked, her brown eyes full of life as she looked at the man in excitement. "Are you Liam, then? Liam! It's been so long!" She exclaimed, rising from her chair with a full-blown smile smeared across her face.
The wolves tensed, their eyes glimmering dangerously as they growled at the girl in warning.
"At ease, my people," Liam said, ignoring Vera's excited behavior. "Is this her?" He asked, glancing towards her with a frown.
Luna narrowed her eyes at the scene. Why did Vera say that? Did they know each other from before, then? She wondered, a tinge of jealousy seeping into her skin.
'Master, please.' The Tohar Sehlah's voice resonated in her head, 'Let's not interfere.'
Luna ignored the stone, keeping her eyes trained on the screen before her.
"Yes, my lord." One of the men replied, not taking his eyes off of Vera.
"I've been dying to meet you!" The she-wolf exclaimed, acting ignorant of the situation she was in.
Before they knew it, she was rushing towards the alpha at lightning speed, her hands flung open excitedly. The goddess snapped her fingers without a second thought.
"Oh-oh!" Vera exclaimed, her eyes wide as she tripped and fell, her hands reaching towards the alpha in desperation.
Liam stepped to his left, avoiding the touch as he watched the girl fall face-down on the stone floor. But before she hit the floor, Isaac quickly stepped in to catch her, breaking the fall. Vera quickly pushed off of him, turning towards Liam with wide eyes.
Luna huffed, waving away the fog in the blink of an eye. She walked inside the room, pushing past the circle of wolves protecting their alpha, sliding between the two.
"Hello, you." She said, a slow smile pulling up the corners of her lips.
Vera stepped back in shock, her eyes wide as if she had seen a ghost. "You!" She exclaimed, pointing a shaky hand towards her. "You're-"
Luna chuckled, stepping forward to grab the girl by her shoulders. What she had tried to pull was one of the oldest tricks in the book. Vera tensed as the goddess squeezed her shoulders, leaning into her ears ever so slightly.
"We meet again," Luna whispered, watching the girl's surprise turn to rage.
