Chapter 464 - Got You!
Chapter 464 – Got You!
Luna couldn't decide whether the girl was feigning ignorance or if she really was unaware of what was happening. It was impossible to guess without proof. It was quite plausible, given how much she saw of the princess.
Alicia was very well capable of doing it all by herself. And seeing how no one else around Liam knew of the curse, it seemed to be a close affair. But if the she-wolf were lying, then she was quite good at it. There was nothing on her that gave her away. The goddess sighed.
"Circe and Alicia…how long were they acquainted for?" She asked.
Vera scrunched her nose, looking at her suspiciously before answering. "Not long. Circe's existence was a secret. Alicia found out about her by chance." She paused, looking down at her hands which were already starting to shake. "Magic is still a crime in this Kingdom. It was more so when we were younger."
The goddess turned around in the bed, her mind plagued with questions. For some reason, it seemed like everything the girl said was the truth. But she had a hunch that there was more to the story than she was letting on.
'Master, you're thinking too much about something that doesn't concern you.' The Tohar Sehlah's voice echoed in her head after hours of silence.
The goddess shook her head, staring at the edge of the wooden canopy that was supporting the silk curtains around the bed.
"I'm trying to link everything together." She said, her voice a mere whisper against the rustle of the curtains as it swayed with the cool breeze of the night pushing through the open window. "I feel like I'm this close to finding the truth. Maybe if I did, it would be easier to dispel the curse."
The stone groaned in irritation. A first at that. It lingered as if wanting to say something but kept quiet. Luna ignored the foul mood of the white stone, pushing herself off of the bed, feeling restless.
She walked over to the window, her brows furrowed in thought. Leaning on the windowsill she sighed, waving her hand at the moon that was growing fuller by the night. The sky shimmered and shook as a thousand strands of silvery moonlight appeared against the midnight blue of the night.
Two bloodied strands stood out in between them, twisting and turning, choking and strangling one another until it separated into two, one of which stretched across the gates of the mansion while the other moved back and forth the garden below.
She leaned forward, a slow frown creeping up her lips as she watched him pace back and forth the lawn in worry. She wondered what was going on inside his beautiful head. She hated the lines on his forehead being scrunched together. She wanted to reach out and smoothen them out.
The goddess raised herself over the windowsill, seating herself on the narrow surface as she watched him from afar. The conversation from earlier came back to her.
"You didn't tell me that you knew her before," Luna said, folding her hands over her chest.
Liam sighed, running his hands through his hair irritably. "It was too long ago. And they were all young." He paused, turning to her nervously. "It's not like I had any particular reason to remember her." He murmured, his eyes searching her face for any sign of displeasure.
"Hmmm." The goddess said, watching the men close the room in front of them.
Her mind was elsewhere, busy sifting through the information she got and trying to make sense of it. She didn't see the way the alpha was waiting for a better reaction.
"Luna?" He asked, placing his hand over her shoulder.
"Hmmm?" She asked, turning around to meet a pair of deep green eyes stricken with worries she couldn't start to comprehend.
Liam hesitated, his shoulders taut with tension. "Don't trust everything she says. I don't see even an inch of innocence left in her." He paused, the expression on his face hardening with every word. "If at all she is the girl she claims to be." He added, glancing at the closed doors before them.
Luna sighed at the memory. The man clearly didn't trust the she-wolf. Whatever history they had did not help the girl move past the barrier he had created around himself. A tiny part inside her was elated at the discovery, but the rest of her mind was invested in figuring out why he was being so protective about the princess.
Luna pressed her lips together reaching her hand out in his direction. "I will take you out from here, one way or the other." She said as the tip of her fingers sparkled, the trail of magic pushing forward in a silvery strand as it wound around the red thread of the curse. "Just trust me as you told me you would."
'Master!' The Tohar Sehlah exclaimed, panicking. 'What are you trying to do?! Let it be! You will alert the time-keeper!'
She ignored the stone, letting the magic push through the knots of the bloody strands. The curse groaned silently, audible only to those from the spiritual realm. Her eyes roamed the surroundings, alert for any movements.
'Master what are you trying to do?!' The white stone asked, panicking. 'Please stop!'
That was when she saw it. A slight movement in the branches of the old cherry tree. A small head poked out from between the leaves, looking around in confusion. She dropped her hand, leaning forward with a smile.
"Got you!" She murmured, pushing forward at lightning speed, sliding through the moonlight with the ease of a bird.
'Master, no!' The Tohar Sehlah exclaimed, its voice shrill in fear at the realization of what she was about to do.
As her feet touched the branch, it made no sound, landing behind the clueless creature whose eyes were trained on the strands of curse in confusion.
She cleared her throat, leaning against the tree trunk. "Hello, there little one." She said, tilting her head to the side.
The Shagird turned around with a frown. "Who-"
Its eyes went wide as realization struck.. The goddess chuckled, stretching her arms forward to grab the panicked creature.
