Chapter 60: The enemy of my enemy is my enemy
Shane slashed at the roaring breezy scaled lizard in front of him, as he noticed something from the corner of his eyes.
Jumping into the peak wild stage breezy scaled lizard with his dagger thrusted forward, Shane barely avoided the earth spikes and fireballs targeting his previous location by a hair length.
The dagger pierced into the breezy scaled lizard, drenched in its blood, killing the scaled lizard without further ado, as Shane landed on the ground.
He struggled to jump up from his position while pulling his dagger out of the breezy scaled lizard’s chest with a forceful pull when another bunch of elemental attacks was shot towards him.
Rolling to the side with his dagger firmly gripped, Umbra was barely able to hold onto Shane, before it was almost flattened on the ground.
Umbra hated these battles and was visibly frustrated but Shane couldn’t care less about Umbra’s emotions because he had to survive.
Jumping up after evading the elemental attacks with a few jumps and roles, Shane noticed the arrival of the purple furred wolves that attacked the distracted bunch of scaled lizards.
Initially, he didn’t want to help the purple furred wolves, but in order to achieve his goal, it was the only way to do so.
As such the distraction he generated should have been enough to turn the tide to a certain degree, as the ratio between wolves and lizards seemed to be balanced.
Each beast seemed to have sustained at least multiple minor injuries with a few serious ones, causing Shane to smile brightly as he backed off from the fighting beasts once again.
Right now, she would only have to wait for the battle to end in order to finish the glorious survivors from the large skirmish in front of him.
Some would say it was cruel, but Shane didn’t mind their opinion, because these beasts would most likely attack him too once they perceived his existences solely because of their wild instincts.
Life was cruel and mankind suffered many times after showing mercy to `cute` and `defenseless` beasts they spared, only to be attacked by them.
Learning human and beast’s cruelty since young, Shane knew what to do.
In the end, Shane decided he would only trust himself, his tamed beasts, and maybe his family to a certain degree, with the exception of his dad.
Even the system was more than a little bit suspicious in Shane’s opinion and trusting it was not something he would ever do.
However, unfortunately, the only thing Shane could do right now was to rely on the system, as every being did, which he would rather not do.
Since Shane transmigrated from earth, he always asked himself why nobody questioned the system but it was only when he awakened the system, that he found out why.
Everyone had to rely on it and it helped everyone to become stronger.
Until now, there was no news about the system itself eradicating or manipulating races or something like that and the only “bad” thing it did was the disaster of Igra, humanity itself brought down to them, due to their negligence about the world protection mechanism.
Due to mankind’s negligence, they didn’t care about the world protection extension and ignored everything in order to strengthen themself.
In the end, the system wasn’t per se at fault and human curiosity made them join the “conquest”.
Nobody knew what exactly the Primordial Dimensions were or where they came from.
More importantly, was however the question of who created these Dimension which thousands of thousand of races used and exploited for their benefits.
Maybe Shane was thinking too much about the system, but the minuscule white strand in his mind, representing the system, was the only thing he truly feared since he transmigrated.
Not even his father ignited such fear within him.
Could it control him or was there a more important usage? Had everyone such a minuscule white strand in their mind and were some races controlled by it?
Was Shane even himself or was he already manipulated by the system?
Each of these thoughts scared him and he could only hope that some of his theories were wrong, as he told himself that he shouldn’t give out his complete trust to anyone out there, because it was unsure if one could trust them.
Shaking his head, Shane saw that only three scaled lizards were left alive while five seriously injured purple furred wolves stood in front of them.
Crouching down, Shane tried to surround the battlefield to backstab the purple furred wolves, as one of the elite stage fiery scaled lizards used the remaining mana within it to generate a head-sized fireball with a searing heat to throw it at the bunch of wolves that stood closely next to each other.
The outer purple furred wolves could evade the incoming fireball by jumping to the side, which they tried, only to notice that the last two remaining earthy scaled lizards also released their last mana reserves in order to create two earth walls on both sides from the purple furred wolf’s location.
Shane was astonished and he could have never imagined that the remaining three scaled lizards were able to use such crude yet efficient tactic, when the head-sized fireball exploded in-between the two earth wall in the middle of the purple furred wolves, that tried to weaken the fireball with lightning currents they released.
Unfortunately, it was rather useless and the fireball exploded without further ado, burning the surrounding purple furred wolves, killing two in an instance.
The remaining three already injured wolves were the furthest apart from the explosion but even they had to endure the searing heat, burning their fur and the skin behind.
With that in mind, Shane’s gaze returned back to the scaled lizards, and exactly as he assumed, they overused their mana and collapsed on the ground.
Furthermore, adding the serious injuries they sustained it was only a matter of time until they would die.
With three seriously injured purple furred wolves left behind, Shane’s payday came.
Hey had still more than half of his mana left and circulating it through his whole body he exerted his full physical strength of a 7th Mortal stage before his steps accelerated.
The distance between him and the three injured purple furred wolves was more than forty meters and he would need some time until he would arrive there, but this was less of a problem.
Knowing he would be noticed before, Shane made himself ready to fight against two heavily injured elite stage beasts in addition to a peak wild stage purple furred wolf that sustained equally heavy injured.
Ignoring the wild stage wolf, Shane’s gaze was focused on the Elite stage wolves and he estimated that their combat prowess was most likely reduced to the later wild stage, at most at the peak wild stage.
Umbra was extremely frustrated and shot multiple small shadow needles out, trying to target the injured wild stage purple furred wolf as its only feasible target.
Crossing the distance between them, Shane evaded the closer injured wild stage wolf before thrusted out with his dagger towards the closest elite stage wolf.
Trying to bit at Shane in order to tear out his flesh, he noticed that the purple furred wolf was still slightly faster than he was which caused him to abandon his straightforward attack, as he leaned even further forward in order to avoid a claw ripping open his chest.
Shane’s body was extremely close to the ground and the two elite stage beasts were faster than him, even though it was only a marginal amount as Shane took out his [Mortal-(Uncommon)] sparky dagger he hadn’t used for a long time before he threw the dagger straight towards the furthest purple furred elite wolf that charged towards him and its comrade.
Slashing out with the shiolite dagger, Shane noticed that his reflexes were slightly better than the purple furred wolves.
As such he used a feint with another straight dagger thrust, only to jump to the side, piercing into the wolf’s abdomen, tearing apart the skin and flesh behind.
Blood and organs spilled out and Shane was sure that the fight would be over soon as a bad premonition spread through his whole body, causing him to activate his [Berserk] skill instinctively while he jumped over the heavily injured purple furred wolf.
