Chapter 503 - Choosing A Mortal Over A God?
Without even a single moment of hesitation, Luna replied in a blood-chilling tone, "So you have chosen death."
Yohr gulped, suddenly feeling a terrifying pressure that made him feel like the world around him was going to crumble down on him.
He didn't expect that the Ethereal One would still refuse his 'generous' offer despite being so weak herself but instead get angry at him. This only made him feel even more indignant since he couldn't understand why she would choose a lowly mortal boy over his powerful divine self.
Still, he didn't dare to believe that the Ethereal One was really in a position to kill him, not with her present weak state that seemed so fragile enough to let him know that even if she slightly exerts her divine energy, then she might fracture her soul even more.
Would she really put herself in danger just to get rid of him? Nah…she has a whole universe to take care of, and he could stand to win from this by taking advantage of her situation as long as he stood firm instead of cowering before her.
"Ethereal One, you had always treated me like your loyal dog, but still, I felt honored and respected you just so that I could at least earn some acknowledgment from your ethereal self. But at that time, you had the qualification to treat me so but now look at yourself. You have become helpless enough to seek the help of a mortal and reside in his soul. Like it or not, I am going to take over that boy's soul, and then I would finally have two Origin Seeds! Finally, I will be able to restore my body and cultivation and then get out of this shithole with you, my Ethereal One in my soul plane. How about it? Don't your ethereal self want to regain your divine power as fast as possible?" Yohr asked fervently while Damien wanted to say something but couldn't.
He knew how much Luna was desperate to regain her powers, and logically if she wanted to regain her powers, she would choose to take Yohr's help. There was also no guarantee that he could help her find Luna's other soul shards while Yohr would surely stand more chances in finding them if he recovered.
Still, Damien wasn't ready to let his body get taken over by a god, and instead, he was already communicating with Kalypso to come up with a plan while Yohr was busy convincing Luna. No matter how disheartening this situation seemed, he wasn't ready to give up without a fight.
But it wouldn't be a lie to say that Damien was concerned about whether Luna would pick him or not. After all, despite having only a verbal contract existing between them, they had shared a lot of experiences and memories over all this time.
He no longer saw Luna as the bratty annoying goddess he did the first time he met her but someone different who had more to her than she showed.
Yohr, however, wasn't exactly that loyal to helping out the Ethereal One. Now that he had seen her in such a weak state which was something he wouldn't even dare to dream about, his ambitions and greed became even more.
If he already had the chance to possess two Origin Seeds, why can't he also make the Ethereal One's power his own and then imprison her soul or whatever was left of it? Wouldn't he reign supreme and even hold power over the Ethereal One?
In the past, he would never even dare birth such a thought since he knew the Ethereal One could even read minds, even the minds of other gods.
But now, because of his newfound courage after seeing her pitiful state, he couldn't help but form dark and sinister thoughts in his mind.
Luna suddenly turned her head and glanced at Damien before looking at Yohr with a frigid gaze, "He might be a weak mortal now, but he is ten times the man you can ever be and not a deceptive bastard dog like you. Do you really think your vile motives can escape my eyes? The only reason you are even breathing the same air as me right now is that you are right, I can't afford to waste my energy, but if you force my hand, then I will take you down even if I have to pay a costly price," Luna said in a cutting tone that made Yohr feel as her voice was cutting through his soul.
He couldn't understand how she was able to intimidate him without even trying or using any of her powers. Just her presence and voice was enough to make him shudder with her present state? Was this how weak he was compared to her true divine self?
But the insults she threw at him, especially saying how he was even more inferior than the mortal boy standing before him, made him feel. This insult was no different than getting slapped on the face by a mortal. When did his divine self have to become so low as to get compared to a lowly mortal?
Damien didn't know if he should feel astonished or not, but inwardly he was happy that Luna didn't even seem to hesitate to think about Yohr's offer. He felt that he didn't judge Luna wrongly, but in fact, she seemed more interesting than ever and had more to her lofty proud self.
Luna's patience was running out as she raised one of her swords and asked coldly, "So what will it be? Forfeit your pathetic life or give back the soul shard that belongs to me?"
Yohr gritted his teeth as he didn't expect the Ethereal One to treat him with such contempt despite serving her for so long in the past. He had kept her soul shard in his soul plane in the hopes that he might get to absorb some of her powers but miserably failed.
He would stand to lose nothing if he simply gave away the shard, but after all the insults and humiliation he faced from the deity he served and revered like a dog in the past made him feel that he couldn't let her off like this, not when she was this weak. Still, he didn't dare to attack her upfront but instead, his large long tail was already silently hovering behind Luna to strike her down before she could realize it.
And so, to distract her, he said in a frightened tone, "Okay! I will give it back to you, Ethereal One…"
