Chapter 62: The Way Back: Equipment Department

Lu Chen was eventually persuaded to get on the plane. The main reason was that only he could watch over the 3rd generation species, and the other was to make sure she didn’t talk.

During the end of the fight, the 3rd generation seemed to notice something. It was his blunder that he didn’t use a Kotodama. He didn’t expect a member of the Dragon Raja to notice his body’s gimmick.

So he had to watch over her each and every second. Firstly, to keep chopping off her parts when she started to regenerate, and secondly, to make sure that the little dragon lady didn’t flap her mouth.

But ever since this once honored being got trapped in those chains, she had been acting very quietly, with only a mocking expression upon her face. Even if her vocal cords began to recover, she said nothing, as if because of her pride, she refused to announce this secret to these lowly hybrids, just as she never once opened her mouth to talk to the hybrids before.

She had only opened her mouth by accident that time due to shock.

“Agent Lu… if you do this, the principal may not be very happy,” Agent Merry came to the back of the cabin, took a look, and kindly reminded.

Lu Chen was bewildered as he pulled Red Maple out from the woman’s chest. He literally just captured a 3rd generation for the college. Why would the principal be unhappy?

“This is a hand-made custom carpet ordered by the principal in Italy,” Merry pointed at the carpet under Lu Chen’s feet that was soaked with fresh blood. That carpet was currently smoking with white smoke. Dragonblood was highly toxic; if the cabin wasn’t made of a special material, then it probably would have corroded a hole into the ground.

Lu Chen was also wearing special boots while standing there. Though he wasn’t afraid of dragonblood, he had to act like he was.

“Ah?” Lu Chen froze, he sure did not consider this problem before.

“Then uh… this carpet… is it… expensive?” Lu Chen once again calculated his dwindling scholarship money.

Merry forced a smile, “The principal buys a lot of expensive things.”

Lu Chen was a bit nervous and asked, “The principal won’t make me pay for it, right?”

“Because you are escorting the 3rd generation species for the mission, this naturally counts as a public loss, so you don’t have to pay for it, although the principal may be a bit mad,” Merry politely explained.

Lu Chen mouth corners twitched. He imagined that 130 year old man’s angry expression and got the chills. He thought, if this carpet is so expensive, then you guys should’ve removed the carpet before I brought her here!

The 3rd generation tied and fastened to the cabin wall merely watched the scene indifferently, neither speaking nor showing expression.

Suddenly, the plane shuddered. Merry lost her balance and nearly fell towards the puddle of dragonblood on the floor. good thing Lu Chen reacted fast enough to grab her by her collar.

After regaining her footing, Merry was somewhat embarrassed as she thought, at this distance, you could’ve steadied me or held me, but you actually grabbed me by my collar? Am I some sort of pet!?

The pretty agent felt a little self-conscious and started to doubt her charm as a woman.

“What’s going on?” Lu Chen frowned and thought it must’ve been the 3rd generation’s tricks.

At this moment, the radio sounded in the cabin. It was the pilot’s voice, “We’ve encountered a slight problem. Don’t panic, everyone.”

Lu Chen was confused and looked at Merry, who trotted all the way to the front to ask about the situation, then trotted back to relay the information.

“While in transit, we were given a warning, since we’re technically illegally crossing borders. We didn’t respond, so the authorities fired missiles,” Merry was pretty calm.

Lu Chen: “???????????????????????????????”

Why are you so calm!?

Immediately after, the plane spiraled. Lu Chen had to grab the handrail to stand firm again.

“We’ve escaped. The journey is still long. Agents who are tired may rest,” the radio sounded again.

Lu Chen thought, are these people from the college toxic or something? Merry indeed said that the ace pilot could escape even missiles, but he didn’t think they’d actually get assaulted by missiles!

But in the end, he twitched his mouth as he complimented, “As expected of the ace pilot employed by the principal. No wonder the principal is comfortable having him drive his private jet.”

“He has no choice but to take it seriously, because the principal canceled his parachute,” Merry shrugged, not too keen on praising the ace pilot’s dedication.

Lu Chen was silent for a few seconds, “What about ours?”

Merry smiled, embarrassed, “Ours as well.”

Lu Chen wanted to cry, “Can I apply for a transfer?”

Good thing nothing bad happened afterwards for the rest of the journey. Lu Chen and the others arrived at the college safely, but he was told to go to a place he really did not want to go to.

In the process of descending in the elevator, Lu Chen looked through the glass elevator at the slightly reflective walls. It seemed to be some kind of special metal. From the surface to the underground, it was probably covered by this metal partition. More than half of the most technologically advanced weapons would have trouble breaking through this “turtle shell.”

The elevator stopped. Lu Chen, led by the guide, exited the elevator. He also pulled a cart with him, it was a special Equipment Department quartz box, which contained the 3rd generation species bound by alchemic chains.

Outside the elevator, the view expanded. At the top, there were rows of lights, shining coldly. The light intensity was moderate, enough to see the space in front of the square clearly, but not too blinding.

The square was divided into areas containing all sorts of strange equipment. Strange people with white protective gear walked around, and upon seeing Lu Chen, they all flocked towards him. This made Lu Chen’s skin crawl, what the hell is this place!?

This was the Institute of Alchemy and Scientific Engineering Applications, commonly known as the Equipment Department.

“Welcome to Walter Alheim,” a person wearing a biochemical protective suit greeted Lu Chen.

“The Equipment Department people like to call themselves that,” the agent that guided Lu Chen said, yet this made the Equipment Department people displeased.

“Didn’t we say to only let him down? What’re you doing here, get back up there right now!”

The battle-hardened agent’s face was a bit dark, but he couldn’t reason with the psychopaths. He silently gave Lu Chen a “good luck” look, then turned the other way towards the elevator.

“Hello, I’m Lu Chen. If I may ask, why are you… all dressed like this? Is it because you are conducting some dangerous experiment?” Lu Chen was a bit on guard. Had he just stepped into a toxic gas experiment?

the leader in the biochemical suit waved his hand dismissively, “No, all experiments were suspended. It’s just that we heard an outsider was coming, so we had a temporary change of clothes.”

Lu Chen was a little puzzled. He wasn’t a pathogen or something.

But he had no time to say anything, because he was harassed by a few bio-suits who reached out to touch and pinch him, as if he were some rare creature or other, which gave him the chills.

Good thing someone stopped the group of psychopaths before he had a fit—it was the head of the psychopaths, “Stop it, what haven’t we seen? Today we feast.”

Upon saying that, he introduced himself, “Abdullah Ahmad Muhammad Farruk, the one in charge here.”

Lu Chen said to himself, so this is the legendary king of the lunatics, the minister of the Equipment Department. This name… is quite long.
