Serefina's face darkened the moment she heard that. It was something that she didn't want to remember. For it was a dark topic that should never be touched, about a moment from her past that she had buried deep in the back of her mind. Serefina had nothing to say for what the guardian angel just said. Instead, she abruptly stood up, and was about to leave the room. But Raine kept on asking her.
"How are you still alive now? I clearly saw it with my own eyes, that you were dead then." With her eyes, Raine followed the way where the witch moved. "What happened to you then?"
"That is none of your business!" Serefina said those words through her gritted teeth.?She looked as dangerous as ever with her eyes that were glaring straight at the girl. As if it would work to make Raine stop asking, and drop the topic.
However, Raine was so determined to find out the truth about Serefina. Since the witch didn't show any remorse for what she had done, this time Raine decided to stand on her ground, refusing to back down now.
If Serefina thought that burning her mother's diary was a trivial matter, then this time, Raine would do just the same thing. All with figuring out about this topic that the witch didn't want to bring up, and keep on pushing the button that the witch seemingly hated the most.
"I was there, and I witnessed everything." Raine stood up. The heartache that she felt, had now turned into a courage she thought she would never have. The diary book was the last reminiscence of her mother that she had after all. And she treasured it dearly. "How can you come back to life?"
Raine strode across the room, and stopped right in front of Serefina. Because she was shorter than the witch, she was forced to raise her head up in order to look at the witch in the eyes. And for the first time ever, she did that without fear.
"I told you that's none of your business." Serefina looked into Raine's eyes with the same anger burning in them. "I warn you, do not ever touch the matter that you can't handle. Especially if you don't even know whether you have the strength needed to deal with it, or not." said Serefina, warning the girl to not cross her.
"Do you really come to help me?" Raine squinted her eyes, analyzing the witch in front of her. She had gotten used to someone who had an ill intention towards her. But she had never faced someone with a hidden agenda like Serefina. "Or perhaps, you have another motive?"
Serefina suddenly smirked with the unexpected question from Raine. "What now? Are you interrogating me?" Serefina said. Her arms were folded casually under her breast. This gesture made her look intensely intimidating, and arrogant.
The smirk on Serefina's face didn't fade away. Instead, she raised her chin proudly as if Raine had just complimented her. "I am glad that I can open your eyes a bit wider."
Raine was lost for words, she didn't expect Serefina to answer in the way she just did. She was rather calm in response, and it made Raine's insult attempt to be a total failure.
"So? What are you going to do about it? Share this little information with Torak? You would snitch on me? Go ahead." Serefina waved her hand invitingly, as if she was giving permission for Raine to do that. "Then again, except from Torak, you have nothing."
Raine could feel her ears burning with the amount of anger her body endured. She didn't know it would be this irritating to hear that from Serefina. Though she already knew it, and rather fully acknowledged this fact, even without having that witch to rub it all over her again.
"You are just a little girl with trauma, and a series of unsolved issues, who doesn't even have the courage to stand up for yourself. You are too weak, and too afraid to fend yourself. Let me say it once and for all; if you keep being like this, once Torak is down, don't be surprised to find yourself to be the first reason for his downfall." Serefina said.
The witch resisted, if any, temptation to be fake towards people. For it was in her nature to stay true to things, she blurted what she just said brutally. Without even a second thought. Because carefully considering one's feelings was never in her quality, let alone Raine's! "Go ahead, show him all your problems, and enjoy how he will take care of everything for you."
Serefina turned around, and opened the door casually. She didn't seem to care whether Raine would really tell Torak about that, or not.
"Continue doing that, and see for yourself how many problems you can give Torak."
After saying that, Serefina closed the door. Once again, Raine was left alone inside the room. She was standing with her shoulder trembling. It was all because of her effort to suppress her emotions in front of Serefina.
Serefina's words kept on repeating inside her head. They were painful, and pricking into her consciousness. She didn't want to be Torak's weakness, and be the reason for his downfall.
From behind the door, Raine could hear the two guards. They asked Serefina how she could get inside the room. They were wondering infinitely, because they didn't see anyone entering the room earlier. Immediately, they told her that Torak had been looking for her.
However, Raine didn't know what Serefina's answer was, or bothered to find out about it…
Her mind was all over the place. She needed some time to rearrange her emotions, and think all there were thoroughly. There were so many things that she didn't know, and needed to learn.
In the end, the time that she took was longer than expected for Raine to come up with her decision. She knew it would be hard. And absolutely, Serefina would make sure that she wouldn't get it easy. But it seemed like there was nothing else that she could do. This was something that she had to do.
Not because Serefina had slapped her with the reality check, and those evident possibilities being put out there for her to see, all ruthlessly. But she didn't want any bad things to come upon Torak.
Raine sighed deeply, and closed her eyes in order to calm herself down. She opened the door of the room just to find the two guards who were standing at the both sides of the door.
"Can you show me where is Torak's study room?" Raine asked with a low voice, almost whispering. But at least this time she looked the two men in the eyes, instead of staring at her shoes like she always did to strangers.
"Sure, over here, Miss." One of the two guards answered her, and both of them led the way down to the first floor.
Although Raine had been there for almost a week, she had not yet roamed around inside this house. Unlike the pack house, this house was dominated with the color of grey, and white. A cold vibe from the entire building was unfailingly delivered with the choice of colors applied.
The two guards led her to the first room on the left side of the stairs, where she could see its white door. But, before Raine could take another step closer, she could hear Torak's angry voice. He was shouting at someone. And after that, she could hear Serefina's voice coming from behind the door. Both of them seemed to be in the middle of a serious argument about something.
And from the sound of it, it seemed like it was about Raine herself.
"I will do it." Raine said so suddenly, after she opened the door. Her presence took the people inside the room by surprise.
