Chapter 668: Things that happened
Chapter 668: Things that happened
Eaton looked at Lilac again. Although the girl's eyes were closed, she looked pretty much awake. In fact she was currently awake, trapped inside the illusion. Under her consciousness, there was a dream-like dimension. The wrinkles between her eyebrows was a sign of discomfort, and from which, Eaton could tell that it was not a beautiful dream for the girl.
"No, don't kill the guardian angel," Eaton said calmly. Jedrek might not say anything about what to do with Kace's mate once found. But, seeing how the Alpha king insisted to keep his own mate alive, wasn't it just logical to assume that he wouldn't have any objection keeping the other guardian angels alive too? Just to be fair, he shouldn't have any objection, they were his brothers' mates after all.
"Just find out where she is, and return." Eaton added.
The mind reader nodded his head, satisfied. "I do think the same." He caressed Lilac's cheek, and wrinkled eyebrows. Immediately, the girl's expression became slightly relaxed. "If only he could be a little less stubborn, then things wouldn't have gotten this complicated." After that, the mind reader straightened his back, and walked towards the door.
"Things will only go from bad to really bad from now on. I can feel that," said the mind reader once more, before he walked out of the room.
"Why can't you be a little bit more optimistic?" Eaton frowned at the closed door, and sighed tiredly.
==============
A year had passed since Tordoff's execution. He was initially imprisoned for the unforgivable crime that he committed, treason against the Alpha king. But his imprisonment was brief, because he was later immediately executed by the Alpha king himself, inside the dungeon where he was locked up.
After being labeled as a traitor, Tordoff was stripped off from his title. He also lost his privileges. There was no honorary ceremony for the fallen general, not even a proper burial. He was just a criminal.
Lyrus was the only general left around the castle. Since Maximus was given a special mission, the Alpha king sent him to go to the other realm to complete his delayed, prolonged duty. Warlock was also sent away elsewhere in the southern region for a mission.
Sebastian, Kyle, and Rowan were busy handling the surfacing casualty in the cities within their territory. The three of them were tasked to ease off the horror from the community, the people of the kingdom. They were basically covering things up, since the number of missing shifters had increased significantly.
With that many problems were tangling around, moreover unsolved, meanwhile Jedrek still insisted that the matter should not be revealed to the public. Because the solution that he came up with since the beginning, was involving massacre. Killing all the victims. And, those fallen shifters were a member of some families. Naturally speaking, the people would not agree to such a method of solving problems.
While some shifters that were kept alive had proven to be normal, and functional, but it was only to some extent. Yet, at some certain unpredictable times, they showed some signs where they were about to go feral, and be dangerous. The Alpha king couldn't take chances, he had no other choice, but to kill them.
Small riots occurred here and there all year long. It was all because of the unsolved matter. It could get worse with now all the citizens learnt a rumor about the royal had been killing shifters for unknown reason. Sadly, the rumor was not just a rumor. It was the hidden truth that started to uncover. A lot of things occurred because of these rumors in general public, although this problem was still under control.
"Visiting your mother again?" said Janus to Jedrek. Mocking was clearly present in his tone. His eyes fixed to his firstborn son. Jedrek noticed his father right away. It wasn't because of Janus's mocking greeting, it was rather because the dark aura around him was becoming even darker than usual.
Jedrek ignored him, acted like he didn't hear what his father said. He kept on walking, but then, Janus caught up to him before the Alpha could walk out of the oval chamber. "You know that you can end this situation." Janus's eyes looked wilder than the last time Jedrek saw him. "Just give the guardian angel to me, and we make a new deal with Mammon."
Janus looked at his son expectantly. He was similar to someone who had lost his mind, bubbling nonsense every time he opened his mouth. It had been ten months since the last time Jedrek gave him the sacrifice that he needed to sustain his feign life. Jedrek didn't know what would happen to Janus if this condition kept on going for another month.
But, the situation in Jedrek's hand at the moment was far more complex, that it was crucial for the Alpha king to find a solution. He didn't have time to worry about his father's condition with all the burden that was already at hand. His main concern could turn far worse than any of Janus' mess. If the kingdom would go down, Jedrek would make sure that it would go down for good.
After all, the kingdom was bound to be doomed anyway, since Janus made several deals with the devil to save Diana, and solve their predicament at the time.
"YOU CAN SAVE YOUR MOTHER AND THIS KINGDOM!" Janus roared at his son who didn't give any response that he wanted. Instead, Jedrek kept his eyes away from his father, looking disgusted by his presence.
However, when finally Jedrek decided to answer him, his voice was devoid from any emotion. Yet, Jedrek's eyes showed the fallen lycan king something that words could not describe. That look in his eyes described his profound resentment far better than any words could ever express.
"You have lost my respect father, and I will not go down the same path that you took. If this kingdom has to go down, and if it means that mother can't be saved, so be it. It will end the vicious cycle that you have created." said Jedrek. It was the longest that the Alpha king had ever said in the past year, since the time when he put Lilac in deep illusion, and sent the mind reader after Kace.
"YOU, BASTARD!" said Janus in rage. He moved forward to throw a punch on Jedrek's face. But his fist passed through its target. On the other hand, Jedrek could only feel a cold wind brushed past his face roughly, and nothing more.
Suddenly, the Alpha king chuckled eerily when he heard that word. Bastard, huh?—he thought. That very word had been Lilac's favorite word that she used to address him, every time he visited her in her little illusion world. Hearing the word came from someone else, made him helplessly reminded of her.
"You are starting to fade." Jedrek mumbled, remarking the change in Janus's being. He threw him one last glance before he walked out of the room, leaving Janus went berserk there, calling for Maximus. Unfortunately, what he didn't know was that Jedrek had sent his only confidant away, to pursue the only thing that interested him the most. His younger brother, Kace.
Kace didn't disappoint him. He was still very difficult to find. Like usual, Kace was the hardest to catch. Even with an addition of the mind reader in Jedrek's special tracking team, still, none of his men that he sent to capture Kace, ever came back to him with Kace's exact location. Not even his mate, the other guardian angel.
"Your Majesty, Sir." Lyrus greeted Jedrek. The Alpha king was emerging from the dark secret tunnel behind the built-in sliding bookcase. "You asked for my presence, Sir?"
Jedrek didn't say a word upon his Beta's greeting. Instead of response, he gestured to Lyrus to follow him. Once they were out of the library, Jedrek turned around to face him. "I want you to go to Torak's place, and I need you to report to me what is happening there."
From many of his trusted royalist sources, Jedrek knew that there was something happening with Torak. He had been missing for days, and no one knew where he was.
