THE LOVE OF A LYCAN

Chapter 674: The understanding

Chapter 674: The understanding

"That soft-hearted pup, Kace?" said Janus looking down on his oldest son. "That useless pup had caused this to your mother. If it wasn't because of him, I wouldn't do what I did. Losing him wouldn't be such a loss for me."

Ever since Diana gave birth to Kace, her health was getting worse each passing day. No one knew why, and this fact made Janus worried to the point where it drove him crazy. He had lost his mind since, otherwise, he would never say such things about his own son.

Jedrek knew that the man before him was no more than a tainted soul with disturbed mind. Even though he had killed Janus a long time ago, his soul was still alive. Left behind only to ask for sacrifices to sustain his shattered, unliving life. All that was the high price he had to pay for dealing with the devil.

"The great Alpha king, and the father that I know will never say that." Jedrek narrowed his eyes. All the good memories in his head, about his beloved father whom he admired, were as blurry as Janus's being right now.

"Then you just don't know about me well enough." Janus smirked like a madman that he was.

"I will end it today," said Jedrek curtly. Unlike his usual self, he was calm now. Regardless of what he was dealing with now.

"You couldn't do it all these years, and you will never be able to do it, ever. Why bother to try now?" Janus crossed his arms in front of his chest, watching as Jedrek walked past him to the door where Diana had been laying down, fast asleep since centuries ago. "Did you forget? The last time you tried it, you incurred the wrath of your mate because you killed her lover?"

Janus mocked him all he wanted. But Jedrek didn't even spare him a glance when he marched determinedly towards the door.

"You should've thanked Asmodeous for bringing your little mate together with the man who truly cared for her, since you don't want a mate in your life." Since he was now incapable of anything, Janus could only say all the nasty things he wanted to say for the world. That, and stayed in the dark while following Jedrek's movement with his eyes.

With closing the door behind him, Jedrek shut Janus's voice completely. He walked towards the bed where his mother laid. He leaned over to kiss her temple gently. "I am sorry, mother," he whispered.

"What would happen then, if Jedrek killed Diana?" Lilac narrowed her eyes at Eaton.

"Catastrophe," said Eaton. "Because we don't know what Janus offered the devil in exchange for Diana's life, and Jedrek still hasn't managed to figure it out."

"What did you say again about the drink that Maximus had been giving to Jedrek?" asked Lilac curiously. She loosened up the bound around Eaton's body, so he could catch his breath, and be conscious enough to keep up with the question she was asking.

"I am not really sure." he said, while looking hesitant to speak what was on his mind.

"What is it?" Lilac took a chair, and sat down in front of Eaton. She was willing to give Eaton the time that he needed, as long as this lycan was going to give her the truth. Considering this was the last chance that Lilac was willing to give in order to understand Jedrek, and the reason behind all of his actions.

"I'm not sure if I should say this." Suddenly, Eaton felt uncomfortable. And this was not caused by the torture he was dealing now, in fact it had nothing to do at all with his current state.

"I'm waiting," said Lilac impassively.

Sighing deeply, Eaton decided to come clean to her. Besides, she was actually wanting to hear this. All, despite everything that Jedrek had put her through. He thought that it would be fair to tell her the truth that she deserved. It was proven by Jedrek's behavior, that hiding something terrible from the people who were willing to help, would never bring any benefit.

"Jedrek almost went feral when Serefina left him." Eaton stopped to observe Lilac's reaction.

Lilac knew who Serefina was. The last pure blood witch. Another creature that had been resurrected by the moon goddess apart from herself.

Jedrek's first love.

Lilac scoffed internally with that thought lingering for a brief moment on her mind.

"So?" If Lilac felt something when she heard Serefina's name being mentioned, she didn't show it on her face.

"That drink was supposed to relieve Jedrek's pain. But later, Jedrek figured out that it was not only to relieve the pain, but it also worked as a substance that prevented him from making the right decision."

"Are you telling me that all the wrongdoings that he had done was because of that stupid drink?" Lilac jeered at Eaton's statement just now. It sounded nothing like the truth to her because of how funny it was. She would laugh if Eaton said 'yes', but he didn't.

"No, once Jedrek realized it, he stopped drinking it." Eaton looked at the fearless girl in front of him. In her eyes he could see hatred. But there was also sadness hidden away in them. "What I'm trying to say is that Jedrek has been living with his pain. And he was not allowed to show it, that it became a habit of his to hide away his true feelings."

"That didn't justify all the terrible things that he had done." said Lilac, standing her ground.

"No, I am not on his side. Especially when he ordered to kill you, and the other guardian angels. All that, only because he thought it was the right thing to do, to have all of you killed before the devil could get to you first."

"This was stupid," said Lilac through her gritted teeth.

"I agree." Eaton nodded. "Yet…"

Lilac raised her hand to stop Eaton from talking further. Her passive expression turned serious as her brows wrinkled tightly. Something was wrong. She felt something.

"What is it?" Eaton frowned when he watched Lilac crouched down on the floor, with her palms touching the ground, as though she was feeling something.

"Can't you feel that?" Lilac asked in a low tone. She was concentrating on whatever the things that she felt beneath the ground.

"No, I don't. If there's something that you felt from the ground, I will not be able to feel it, since my feet don't step on it." Eaton was stuck on the wall, wrapped tightly by the roots. His feet hung a few inches away off the ground.

But Lilac ignored what Eaton said, as she focused on what she felt on the ground.

"Earthquake?" Lilac mumbled. But then, she shook her head. It was not an earthquake, but the odd thing was that she could feel the ground was shaking. As if there was something about to emerge from inside. Somewhere.

"What do you feel?" Eaton was concerned, and it was shown by the look in his face. He watched how serious Lilac was. Her face was deep in concentration.

"Something is happening. The ground is shaking, but this doesn't happen naturally. As if some foreign forces are forcing this to happen."

Eaton fell silent for a brief moment. But then he came back to his senses, and said, "Release me."

Lilac raised her head, and gave him a look.

The lycan groaned when he felt her distrust towards him. "I think it's happening now."

And with that, the understanding dawned on her, as she realized what was about to happen.
