Chapter 136 - Breaking The Unbreakable Barrier II
Chapter 136 – Breaking The Unbreakable Barrier II
"Ah… goodness…"
The werewolf that came after Toby ground his teeth, snarling at the sight of these gigantic bears. Since the werewolves and bears were still hostile against each other, many negative thoughts flooded his head.
In his mind, these bears would pounce and feast on him. They were strong creatures, and that was a fact. But werewolves could run faster than them. The problem was, he was surrounded. All he could think of was to fight them and find an opening to run back to the castle to inform others that the bears couldn't be trusted.
That thought instantly became the wolf's plan.
*HOWL*
He howled to give a signal to whoever would hear him. After that, his eyes glowed while vigilantly observing the approaching bears. Little did he know, Toby, who was frantically pounding his paws against the ground, was pleading for everyone to make haste.
"Damn…" the wolf cursed through his gritted teeth. Hairs from across his body thickened as his fingers stretched. His clothes were slowly torn apart by his growing physique, howling once again. It only took a matter of seconds before the man shifted into a wolf much smaller than the adult bears.
'No…' Toby gazed at the wolf standing not far away from his vantage point, sensing that the werewolf already branded their presence as a threat. 'Bowie! This is not the right time to fight! Mama will get angry if we fight the wolves!'
'Little cub, this wolf will never hear us aside from our growling.' Bowie, whose eyes were on the werewolf driven into the corner, spoke in Toby's head. 'Everyone, follow the Lamb's scent and leave traces so the wolves can follow.'
'Bowie…' Toby looked at the tribe's leader helplessly, realizing how distressing this situation, now that he was in it. The situation was filled with miscommunication between the bears and the wolf. A helpless situation where their voices, pleas, intentions couldn't be heard.
It was frustrating.
'I will make this wolf understand. In this case, we can only do it how the wilderness does it.' Bowie let out a hair-raising growl as he took a step forward to the wolf. One more step, Bowie, the bear, and the warrior wolf leaped towards each other. But alas, just like the latter already expected, this bear was unlike any other bears.
In a blink of an eye, Bowie subdued him with only his weight. Although the wolf grazed the bear with his sharp teeth, it didn't faze the bear. Keeping his paw on the wolf's back, Bowie's eyes brood. The wolf howled, retaliating at the crushing weight on his back.
But when he looked back, the wolf gradually froze. The bear wasn't attacking him. He was only keeping him to stop him from attacking. But that wasn't what surprised the wolf. What caught his attention was the bear's intimidating pair of eyes.
There were no words that were said, but only low growls. However, the wolf instinct understood what those eyes were saying desperately.
'Go back and ask for help.'
What kind of help? The wolf was unsure. But what he was sure of was that the bear didn't want to hurt him even though he could tear him apart right this instance.
When Bowie felt that the wolf had calmed down, he carefully withdrew his paws from the wolf's back. He kept his gaze on the wary wolf, who was sizing him up. But Bowie didn't mind him as he cocked his head to the bears who were left behind.
The wolf studied how the bears retreated, watching the gigantic black bear face the black cub. Bowie nuzzled its nose against Toby, pushing him towards the wolf.
'Child, go back with the wolf. If she told you to ask for help, then you know who she was talking about.' Bowie cast the black cub a knowing look. 'Wherever the lamb goes, the Tarsa will follow. She will be alright.'
With that being said, Bowie paced away with his heavy footsteps resonating in the still air. Toby watched Bowie's gigantic figure fade into the darkness but didn't idle for so long. Instead, he rammed his little head on the wolf's feet to bring him back to his trance.
The wolf looked down in confusion, seeing the cub's clear, worried eyes. This look… he first mistook as fear for strangers, but now it looked clearer. It was a look of fear for something else, with a touch of desperation for help.
Even though everything was unclear, the wolf let out another loud howl. This time, it was a howl that would be perceived as a call for help. After that, the wolf bit the black cut on his nape, lifting its heavy body, and tossed it on his back.
'Just stay still, little bear,' said the wolf, even though he knew the cub wouldn't hear him. Out of instinct, Toby fused his chubby body on the wolf's back as the latter ran back to where they came from. This time, he was ten times faster than when he was chasing after him.
No one had thought about it yet, but this was the first time the bears and the werewolf would work together. They didn't hear each other's words, but for some cogent reasons, they agreed on something the wolves have yet to find out.
No one knew that tonight would also be the night, that the seemingly unbreakable barrier between two species had a crack. And its crack would only stretch even further until it would shatter like a fragile glass.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Belcoot, Hugo stretched his neck from one side to the other. It was already in the middle of the night, but he ordered everyone to move and rest in the next town. He was in a hurry to finish the inspection so he could come back to Rinnie.
"Alpha, I'm so envious of Edge…" Kieran frowned as they were tired after a full day of running and inspecting. Not to mention, the additional work in between.
"Shut up." Hugo clicked his tongue, gazing at everyone who was looking at him as if he had wronged them all. "If I was gone for too long, aren't you afraid Rinrin will leave me? There will be no luna for this pack!"
"Alpha, we all agree that we like our Luna. But at this rate, you will have a Luna, but we're all dead."
"Tsk! We'll stop in the next town! Stop whining." Hugo ruffled his hair in irritation. The others didn't have any choice at this point. But just as they were about to set off, everyone turned their heads upon a faint howl from the distance.
The howling didn't stop at one time, as frantic howls followed it from the same wolf. Everyone gazed in the direction of the sound, brows furrowed. Soon, they caught a tiny figure of a wolf running at its fastest speed while howling; an action a wolf would never do unless it was an emergency where he couldn't afford to stop just to howl for help.
"Alpha isn't that wolf came from the castle…?" Ivo muttered and everyone's heart suddenly thumped against their ribcage.
"Let's go back to the castle." Hugo barely blinked after seeing that desperate wolf approach them.. "We'll meet that wolf halfway."
