Chapter 1798 1798: Balance Breaker

[‘With your contributions to the Shadow Plane, as well as your current strength taken into consideration, it is only right that your rewards should be adjusted accordingly,’ says the Overseer.]

[‘Although the rewards that have been given to you thus far barely meet the standards of what would usually be contained in a Tier 2 set, this next one stands on the other spectrum, meeting the standards of a reward infinitesimally close to a Tier 4 set.’]

[‘I hope this title helps you out on your journey.’]

[You have obtained the title ‘Overseer’s Accolade of the Shadowblessed’.]

‘Now what kind of title is this?’

Reading through the notifications making up the final set a couple of times, a look of curiosity slowly appeared on Valyr’s face as he noticed the wordings used by Xervei in some of the notifications.

‘A reward infinitesimally close to the standard of a Tier 4 set, which would help me out on my journey,’ muttered the young man to himself, prompting the gears in his mind to start turning.

‘The only other title that comes to mind that would fit that kind of criteria would be something like [Primordial Supremacy of the Sole Mortal Anomaly].’ As the title came to mind, he could not help but think about how long its name was.

‘So… does that mean this title Xervei gave me has a similar effect to it?’

Curious to see whether or not his hypothesis was correct, the young man went ahead and brought up the title’s description in front of him, reading through it the moment it appeared.

[Overseer’s Accolade of the Shadowblessed] (Title)

Rarity: Divine (Special)

“You can call it a shot in the dark, a hail Mary attempt, or a poor decision made without much thought put into it. Whatever way you look at it, the value of this title is definitely enough to make you think that way.

However, even if you tell me that, I wouldn’t say that I’d agree with you. Why? That’s because I have a feeling that this decision will pay off in the long run. I have a feeling that this is the opposite of all those terms.

Though it may not seem like it at first, this child actually holds great potential. The fact that some of his stats are already above the five-digit mark makes me confident that his journey would go past the threshold of divinity at the very least.

Of course, it would be better if he breaks past the realms of divinity and enter the realm that would allow him to stand unparalleled throughout the universe. However, for him to do that, he would need a foundation capable of achieving just that.

And thus, I bestow upon him this title to aid him exactly in this aspect.”

– An excerpt of a related train of thought from the Overseer of the Shadow Plane

Having contributed greatly to the Shadow Plane’s existence, the Overseer of the Shadow Plane has decided to bestow upon you a title that not only serves as proof of his recognition of you, but also as proof of your identity as a being greatly blessed by the Shadow Plane.

Only with both elements can one be truly called a Shadowblessed. With this title, you have now become one of those beings.

Effects:

> All stats are increased by 100 points

> Maximum HP and MP are increased by 10,000 points

> 15% boost to all stats

> Your main class now gives an additional 3 points to each stat per level (applies retroactively)

> Your subclasses now give an additional 1 point to all stats your subclasses affect per level (applies retroactively)

‘What…’

‘…What the fuck?’

After Valyr was done going through his new title, the young man stared at the screen for a bit as his mind tried to process what he had just read.

Yet, no matter how much he understood the words that made up its description, he felt as if he still could not wrap his head around it.

‘Titles like this actually exist?’ Feeling as if he was on the verge of losing it, Valyr forcefully calmed himself down as he sent his other self a message through [Soul Entanglement].

‘What’s up?’

‘You busy, Meyers?’ asked Valyr, taking in a few deep breaths as he continued to keep an eye on the screen he was looking at. ‘I got something for you to look at.’

‘Still in the middle of researching Mystic Runes, but I could spare some time,’ replied Ataraxia, to which the young man took as his cue to send information of his newly obtained title over. ‘What do you want me to look a—oh, what the fuck?’

‘There are actual titles that have that kind of effect?’

‘Exactly what I said the moment I was done reading through it.’ Valyr faintly smiled after hearing the words that echoed in his mind. ‘To think there was actually a title like this in Greater Beyond.’

‘In a way, it kind of resembles the titles we got that reduce the efficacy of the Damage Restriction System,’ said Ataraxia in return. ‘Of course, I’m not talking about the effects themselves, but more so how we’re only stumbling across them for the first time.’

‘Hmm…’ At those words, the young man went silent for a bit as he gave the entire thing a bit of thought.

Though, after some time, he asked his other self a question.

‘Say, Meyers… don’t you think the title feels like it meets the criteria of that thing?’

‘What thing?’ asked Ataraxia, not understanding what Valyr was talking about.

‘Balance Breakers,’ the latter replied, his tone containing a hint of excitement. ‘Doesn’t this title exactly fit the definition of a Balance Breaker?’

Through the lifespan of Greater Beyond, players had come across a number of various abilities, titles, and classes that achieve specific effects that would unknowingly give one side an unfair advantage.

Due to how unfair this advantage was whenever those things came to play, the players had begun to unanimously call them Balance Breakers, which Valyr understood as just another way for players to interpret things as being overpowered.

Yet, because of that term, a large compendium of abilities, titles, and classes that fell under this category had been compiled by the players, which eventually gave rise to beings that even most NPCs did not dare to offend.

“It seems you’ve finally looked through it.” While Valyr was still discussing with Ataraxia about how the title he just got definitely fell into the Balance Breaker category, Xervei had a knowing smile on his face as he opened his mouth.

“So, what do you think of the Extended Foundation title I gave you?”
