Chapter 429 - 429: Smells Tasty
Chapter 429 – 429: Smells Tasty
Luna stretched her limbs happily, a wide smile spread across her face. She was happy that she had such a good sleep. The mattress was way more comfortable than the floor where she had slept off yesterday night before everything happened. Thinking of the previous night made her feel excited.
At last, she had found the soul shard. After she was done collecting it, she could happily move on to the next timeline. It was only her second day at the Hidden Island and she was quite close to her objective. Even a quarter of a day wouldn't have passed in the spiritual realm.
The goddess sighed, remembering the mission she had allocated to her pet fox. She hoped that Meifeng would be able to hold on to her disguise long enough. Luna glanced around the place, propping her head up on her hands.
The first rays of the sun were gently pushing through the cracks in the wooden panes that made up the window. She scrunched her brows in confusion. It was odd. She didn't remember closing it the night before. Had someone come into the room while she was sleeping? She wondered, looking around for any tell-tale signs of disturbance in the room.
But she found none. The room was left completely untouched from how she remembered it. When William had walked out, he had left his trunk wide open and one of the chairs around the table was poking out of its place. It all looked the same to her.
'Master, what are you thinking about?' Came a familiar voice from inside her head.
Luna frowned, tapping her forehead thoughtfully. "I wonder who came into the room last night." She said, her voice still thick from sleep.
It didn't make sense. Why would anyone care enough about her to close the windows while she slept? It had not been long since she had reached the Island and from the moment she had landed she had only made enemies. The image of a certain brown-eyed wolf flashed in her mind.
'Could it be the alpha?' The Tohar Sehlah asked, voicing her doubts.
"Hmm?" The goddess asked, rolling to her side with a confused look. She clutched her blanket close to her neck as the thought sank in. "But why would-"
Luna stopped mid-sentence, her eyes widening as she heard the front door creak open from the adjacent room. She immediately covered her head with the blanket, hiding under it, faking sleep. It took her immense effort to control her heartbeat that was threatening to increase its pace at any moment.
She hadn't felt this nervous since she had first caught prince Sargon in her brother's room, taking a nice long bath. Mistaking him for Adar, she had barged into the pool room, complaining loudly about a certain cousin of hers. Her cheeks burned at the memory. That day she wanted to bury herself under her pavilion out of embarrassment.
But why was the thought of the alpha showing a little care for her making her as nervous? Was it because of the shamelessness of the man that reminded her so much of her beloved? Or was it because she wasn't used to such gestures from strangers? She wondered, the question pouring into her head one after the other.
'Master, why do you hide?' The Tohar Sehlah asked, its voice piqued with curiosity.
Luna bit her lip, ignoring the question. She wanted to know the answer to that as well, she thought, clutching the blanket nervously. That was when she heard it. The whispers that were coming from the adjacent room. It didn't sound like William at all, but the alpha's servants from yesterday.
The goddess let out a sigh of relief. But she kept her eyes closed, knowing that it would do her no good, confronting them early in the morning. Those women were probably looking for an opportunity to kill her, she thought, lowering the blanket slightly to hear better.
She heard the sound of the beaded curtain being moved to the side as five pairs of footsteps entered the room. They stopped right beside her bed. She heard the clank of metal and the swish of water as something was forcibly put down on the carpeted floor. But she didn't react to it, keeping her breath steady as if she were asleep.
One of them growled. "He treats this slave better than us. He even let her sleep on his bed! I wonder what he sees in her." The woman said, her voice filled with hatred. It was easy to guess that the woman was a wolf from the way her voice turned slightly guttural. "If it were not for his threat, I would have shredded her into breakfast already."
"But I don't think it will last." Another chipped in, her tone mocking. "The alpha didn't even stay a single night with her."
At the woman's statement, the others hummed in agreement. The goddess frowned, the lower part of her face hidden by the blanket. She didn't care about the alpha's attention in the least bit. And she didn't want to be compared to the likes of those who were dying for it. She wondered where these women got the impression that she was attracted by the man.
"She smells tasty though." A deeper female voice added as a warm sensation grew close to her back. "Maybe I can have.."
"Hanna!" Another exclaimed, quickly slapping her friend's hand away. Luna heard a frustrated growl coming from behind her as the woman withdrew. The woman who stopped the wolf sighed, patting her friend reassuringly. "Not now. Our time will come." She coaxed.
Her voice was as sweet as a Selkie's. It was so alluring that even the moon goddess lying in front of them felt a tug in her heart. With moans of complaint, the women left one by one, leaving her alone in the room. The goddess didn't dare to move until she heard the door bang behind them.
Luna slowly opened her eyes, pushing the blanket away from her. She glanced to her sides, making sure that she was alone before she pushed herself to a sitting position, her long black hair falling to her sides like the purest of silks. There was a slight smirk on her face as she stared at the exit.
