Chapter 430 - 430: Suspecting Him
Chapter 430 – 430: Suspecting Him
'Master, did you hear what they said?!' The Tohar Sehlah's panicked voice filled her head as she slipped out of the bed.
"I don't blame them." She said, waving the stone's concern away dismissively. "I know how alluring my blood could be to them. Or did you forget what happened when your counterpart awoke inside me in my last reincarnation?" She asked, bending towards the metal bowl that the women had left behind.
The white stone turned silent at the question, retreating slightly to the side of her conscience. Luna chuckled, pushing her hand into the water. She splashed the cold liquid over her face, letting it freshen her up. Wiping her face and the back of her neck thoroughly, she stood up, refreshed from the act.
'Hehe.' The Dam Sehlah's voice pushed in, 'Don't blame me, master. I am but your essence. Blame yourself for being tasty. But thankfully, you have managed to suppress your aura to a great extent. If not, they would have all gone crazy for your blood by now.' The stone pointed out, refusing to take the blame for its actions.
The goddess laughed at the statement, shaking her head. "That was a good start to the day." She said, rubbing her wet hands on her hair. "Now let's get back to our work."
By the time she managed to find the road that led to the temple, the sun was already shining brightly over the forest. All throughout her walk, no one dared to come near her. The hostile gazes of the pack remained unchanged as she slipped past them. Some sneered at her while the others hissed at her threateningly.
She knew that like the alpha's personal maids, these people too, wouldn't hesitate to kill her at the first opportunity. But thankfully, they were holding back, at least for now. To her relief, not even a single soul wandered around the road to the temple.
The forest was filled with the sounds of chirping birds. She could identify a few from her days on earth. The call of the Myna and Wild Canaries echoed through the trees. Jungle Babblers hopped around the low branches of the wet trees in groups of seven, cocking their little heads to the sides and staring at her curiously before following her path cheerily.
Luna smiled at the little birds, knowing that they probably recognized her even when her powers were suppressed to a great extent. She extended a hand towards them, letting a few perch on her pale limb. She chuckled, rubbing the feathers of the two curious Babblers.
"Can you lead me to the edge of this forest, little ones?" She asked, her melodious voice coaxing them gently.
The little brown birds chirped, fluttering their wings excitedly. At her nod, the birds rose up, turning to her right. She followed the little ones hurriedly, relief flooding over her face. Now that she knew that the shard was not among the pack, Luna didn't want to waste any more time staying on the Island.
It was hard to read William's mind. And like the maids had already said, the time would come when he would decide that she was not as intriguing anymore. Neither did she want to test his patience nor did she want to waste her time by waiting for that day.
If her guess was right, the shard must have already sensed her. No matter what its connection with the alpha was, it was sure to get drawn to her. And she didn't want to risk its safety either. Her purpose on earth was to get to it before anyone else did. If the shard died in this timeline before that, all her effort would be in vain. She would then have to wait for it to get reincarnated again in the timeline, she thought, rushing through the narrow path overgrown with weeds.
As she reached the mud-packed temple, she glanced at it curiously. The nine-pointed stones looked quite dull under daylight. But she knew better. She had sensed its power yesterday. She wondered how the pack managed to land the demon stones in their possession, snippets of the previous night's perversities flashing in her mind.
"Do you think that the demon stones can sustain a formation for a long time?" She asked, continuing her walk behind the birds.
'It is possible.' The Tohar Sehlah answered, showing her an image of the Demon King's lair that she had once stumbled upon. 'After all, the demon king's spell array is also set up in a similar manner.'
The goddess shook her head. "Yes, but he's the demon king- the lord of all dark magic. How can these wolves-" She paused mid-sentence, the realization dawning in on her. "Shit!" She cursed, stopping dead in her tracks.
The Jungle Babblers chirped excitedly, flying back and forth in front of her eyes, vying for her attention. Luna smiled, nodding at them gratefully.
"Thank you, little ones." She said, flashing her perfect set of teeth at them encouragingly. "You may leave."
The birds chirped, fluttering their wings before taking off towards where they came from. As soon as they left, the goddess's smile vanished. She could see a clearing a few meters away from her. The wind carried the sound of the water gently lapping against the rocky edge of the Island.
She knew that if she walked a bit further, she'd reach the edge of the Island. But Luna turned away from the sight with a frown.
'What are you hesitating for?' The Dam Sehlah asked, sounding impatient.
The goddess sighed, raising her hand slightly in the air. "I need to make sure of something before I leave." She said, readying herself to release her powers.
'Don't tell me that you're suspecting him!' The red stone asked, its voice shrill with panic as the image of a certain evil king flashed in her mind.
"It could very well be," Luna replied through clenched teeth.
She was just about to crack through her suppression spell when suddenly it happened. The stone that lay cold against her chest pulsed, sending heat waves through her body. She forgot everything at that moment, turning around in a hurry towards her back.
The pull towards the shard was magnetic. It led her to a pair of deep green eyes staring at her from a distance in awe. She felt her heart cave and her eyes tear. Her emotions were all over the place as she stepped forward, hoping to get a better look at the man who she knew had returned to her without knowing why. But a familiar voice froze her in her spot.
"What are you doing here?" Kirk's suspicious voice reached out to her as a sweaty hand hooked onto her shoulder, holding her in place.
